Download Options
You can setup options to customize your download on the Options page. For example, you can specify the depth of download links and file size limit for download files, both may affect the scope of your downloads.
There are also two folder structure options for saving your downloads. You can download an entire or part of web site, including multimedia or text only, and keep its folder structure. With this option Web Boomerang will not modify the links inside the html pages; it will not create a Table of Contents page for local browsing.
You also have the option to ask Web Boomerang to modify the links for local browsing. With this option, all downloaded files are stored in the specified local folder and all the links will be modified to point to local files. A Table of Contents index will be created to assist you in locally browsing the downloaded web site and files. Files with duplicate names will be renamed as *_1.htm, *_2.htm, and so on so that they can be distinguished.
Download file types
Pages should be selected if you want to download the Text only version of the site.
When this option is selected, Web Boomerang will save the following file types: htm, html, htmlx, htmx, shtm, shtml, phtm, phtml, stm, com, asp, php, php3, php4, php2, cgi, jsp, pl, cfm, and nsf.
Images should be selected if you want to display sites correctly.
When this option is selected, Web Boomerang will download the following file types: gif, jpeg, jpg, bmp and tif.
Multimedia files should be selected if you want to download multimedia files.
When this option is selected, Web Boomerang will download the following file types: mpeg, mpg, avi, asf, mp3, mp2, mov, rm, wav, vob, gt, vid, ac3, wma, and wmv.
Archives should be selected if you want to download archive files.
When this option is selected, Web Boomerang will download the following file types: zip, tar, tgz, gz, rar, z, and exe.
Others should be selected if you want to specify only those listed file types are to be added into download list. You can specify your own file types by entering each file extension preceded by a period, e.g. “.abc”; multiple file types are separated by commas without space. If you want to download everything, you can specify “*.*”.
Web Boomerang downloads the same page files that can be brought down by your web browser. For script files that reside on servers, e.g. asp, cgi, pearl, or php, it displays the html results of those files as .htm instead of its source code because of server security. To completely mirror a web site including the server script files, you should use a FTP client such as ConcordFTP instead. Files downloaded via FTP, however, are not always suitable for offline viewing.
Web Boomerang doesn’t parse Flash, Java, Javascript or VB Scripts. If the site uses scripts or has complex page, Web Boomerang will fail to download some of files. In order to view offline correctly, sometimes you have to edit the page via WB Browser.
Folder structure
Keep site folder structure will maintain the folder structure of the original web site.
Modify structure for local browsing will modify links in html and place all files into one folder for easy local browsing.
Options
Table of Content: A Table of Contents page will be generated to aid in convenient browsing.
Limit depths of links: Check off this option and enter the desired number of link depth. The current page is considered the first level. Entering “1” will download the contents of the first page only; entering the number “2” will download the first page and all pages and listed files with links contained within.
Higher level of depth may increase the total number of download links exponentially. For example, if it averages ten links per page, a depth of “2” may result in downloading ten pages, “3” may result in one hundred pages, “4” may result in one thousand pages, and so on. We recommend that you be conservative is setting the depth limit.
Limit HTML pages: Check off this option and enter the desired maximum number of html pages that you want to download.
If both Limit depth of links and Limit HTML pages options are checked off, Web Boomerang will stop when either one of the limits is reached.
Limit file size: Check off this option and enter the desired maximum file size for the files that you will be downloading. Files with sizes larger than the maximum will not be downloaded.
Follow external links to download the initial offsite page: Check off this option to download the first page of links to other websites.
After you are satisfied with your selections, you may press the Start button to move on to the Progress page and start downloading the web site.
From the Progress page, you may click the Back button to go to the Options page if you want to review download options; afterwards clicking the Next button on the Options page will take you back to the Progress page to view previous download results.
If you have previously downloaded web site saved under the same folder name, Web Boomerang will ask you whether you want to delete the old files. Deleted files will be sent to the Recycle Bin if it is not disabled.
