Getting Started

Once you have installed MetaProducts Inquiry, the program is always available. You can access its features in two ways.

Access Inquiry features

Standalone application
To open the standalone Inquiry application, click the Start button, go to Programs - MetaProducts Inquiry folder and click MetaProducts Inquiry.

MS Internet Explorer
When you open an Internet Explorer window, you should see the Inquiry buttons on an additional toolbar:

If the Inquiry bar is not visible, please enable it using the View | Toolbars | Inquiry Bar menu. You can also add two quick access Inquiry buttons to the standard Internet Explorer toolbar - go to the View | Toolbars | Customize menu. Select the MP Inquiry and Save with MP Inquiry buttons on the left and add them to the list of toolbar buttons on the right. Click the Close button.

Click the Inquiry button to show the panel with the folders to save Web pages.

Saving a Web page
Browse to the Web page you want to save and click the Save button on the toolbar. Choose the Saved Pages folder or one of the previously-used folders.

Other ways to save the current page are:

  • Drag the Web page icon in the MS Internet Explorer Address Bar to the desired Inquiry folder.
  • Right-click the page and choose Save page with MP Inquiry.
  • Select part of a Web page you are browsing and drag it to Inquiry. You will be prompted to save the selection or to store all pages linked to the selection.

Browsing and changing stored Web pages
The pages saved with Inquiry are always available. You can be disconnected from the Internet or the site can disappear, but the information will still be on your computer. It doesn't expire from your cache. To browse the saved page, simply find it in one of the Inquiry folders and click it.

To get a visual representation of the folder with saved pages, click the folder. Inquiry will show you a page with thumbnails of each stored page for faster access.

The Web pages you save are not static. You can edit them, combine multiple pages and change associated information (keywords, comment, title and icon.) All these features are accessible if you right-click the saved page in one of the Inquiry folders and choose Edit or Properties.

Creating folders
Folders are used to organize saved pages. For example, you can add a News folder to store only Web pages from online news sites, etc. You can create folders under the Saved Pages folder. You can also use this folder to store pages quickly with a single click (using the Save with MP Inquiry button or MS Internet Explorer context menu.)

To create a new folder in the Inquiry folders tree, right-click Saved Pages and choose Add Folder. Type the folder name and press the Enter key.

To save a page in the new folder, right-click the saved page in Inquiry and choose Move. Select the desired folder and click the OK button.

You can even move entire folders inside another folder the same way.

Searching the saved pages
You can easily find information in the saved pages. Click the Search button in MetaProducts Inquiry. Enter the words you want to search for and click the Find button.

When the search is complete, Inquiry will show you a page with links to all resulting pages and their screenshots. You can access each of the results by clicking the links on the page or using the Search Results folder in MetaProducts Inquiry.

Sharing the information
MetaProducts Inquiry can output the saved pages in various formats, so you can easily share them with your friends, colleagues, partners and other people.

You can export one saved page or the entire folder (with subfolders.) Right-click the page or folder in MetaProducts Inquiry and choose Export.

You can select one of the following file formats for export:

  • HTML Help file (.CHM)
  • MHT archive
  • Compressed .EXE viewer
  • HTML files
  • Backup

You may also send the page by E-mail or transfer it to MS Word.
