Troubleshooting

  • Error message after clicking GO!: "No hardware support found. Switching to reference rasterizer", "No suitable device was found to initialize D3D. Application will now exit.". The autodetection of resolution options can list the resolution options twice on dual monitor PCs - a set for each monitor. If you select the second occurrence of the resolution option then you will get this error. To fix this, start the 3D Graph Generator program, click on Options, go to the General Settings tab, click on the down arrow for the Resolution and select the FIRST occurrence in the list for your preferred resolution. Click OK, click GO and it should run fine.
  • Error message during install: Error 1931. The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file [directory and filename here] because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly.
Just click OK or Continue and ignore the message because it doesn't cause any problems. It just means that the file is already installed and it doesn't need to be updated anyway.

  • Jerking and slow movement - The best solution is to get a better video card because you can get smooth motion with fine detail and a less pixelated (dotted) image. Alternatively, you can try the following things but you will generally lose image quality as a trade off: Reduce the amount of data you are looking at or increase the rotation and movement speed (keypad +, - and *, / as per the Keyboard reference and Options). By setting the Options to use the lowest Resolution (like 640 x 480) and turning off the Terrain should also improve performance.
  • Graph is hard to read - this is probably because you are using a low Resolution like 640 x 480 which results in a pixelated (dotted) image, but the trade-off is that you get smoother motion. To get the best quality image, use a higher resolution (like 1024 x 768) and antialiasing if your video card can support it. Antialiasing smoothes the jagged diagonal lines caused by pixels (dots) which results in a better looking image. To set antialiasing, you need to set your video card display options in your operating system (not in the 3D Graph Generator program). Antialiasing can usually be found under the Control Panel > Display > Settings tab > Advanced > (somewhere under one of the tab options). If you can't find it, then your video card probably doesn't support it.
