3D Graph Generator Options

The options form contains a tab for the skin settings (appearance of the graph) and a general settings tab for system type configurations. Although you can change many options while viewing the graph, they are provided here so that they are saved as your defaults when viewing the graph. This is useful for setting it up for a presentation, so when showing the graph, you don't have to reconfigure it in front of your audience.

Skin Settings

  • A skin is really just a group of setting for what the graph will look like. You can select a preconfigured skin or make your own. Each skin is saved into Skins directory where the program is installed. By default this is C:\Program Files\3D Graph Generator\Skins\. The name of the skin is the name of the directory and it holds the settings file and all textures (image files) used for that skin. Therefore if you want to share your skin settings with someone else, simply copy that skin directory. (Note that when you select a texture for the graph, that image file is copied into the skin directory automatically so the original file is never referenced again. This allows the skin to work by itself without any dependencies and allows it to be shared easily.)
  • The large diagram on the right hand side of the form is a top down view representing the graph. Click on a particular graph object to see a menu for changing the properties for that item.

  • The background colour for each of the four squares shown above have different colours. These colours are the background colours for each of the columns of data just to make it easier to distinguish one column of data to the next. If you have five columns of data, then the first column's background colour is used for column number five, likewise column six uses the second column's colour, etc.

  • A texture is just an image file that is wrapped around the 3D object to make it look more realistic or interesting. If you want to use your own texture then you should make it a square jpeg image that is 256x256 pixels in dimensions except for the Bar Info Box texture which should be 512x512 pixels.
  • How to change the Logo: Click on any of the 4 logos, select the Texture option, then choose a .jpg image file of your own logo. Your logo can be of any size but it will be resized into a square shape, so for best results your logo should be a square .jpg image and preferably 256x256 pixels in size.
