Options

Options tab contains two sub-tabs : "Settings" and "Ignore words". Default settings can always be restored by clicking "Restore default". For most text analysis tasks options does not need any special tuning.

"Settings" tab consists of several sections:

partition recovery freeware password hacking pen drive repair
laptops data recovery software updates mobile text message
monitor usb network usb monitor official accounting software

Settings tab

Settings tab

General section contains flags that applies to Textanz as a whole.

Phrase frequency applies to the corresponding tab and contains settings:

  • "words in phrase" number and "minimal/exact" radio button; By default, program counts phrases of any length starting from 1. This limit can be raised in order to see only longer phrases.
  • The "exact" setting needs more comments here : Textanz will not display shorter phrase with the same frequency as longer phrase that contains shorter one. See the example in Phrase frequencies chapter. Option "include substrings" will turn this effect off but it must be clear that number of phrases will be increased greatly with this option.
  • "phrase stop chars" box lists characters that terminates the phrase (sentence).
  • "exclude ignored words" checkbox applies to single words only . Ignored words are obviously frequent words that you don't want to see in frequency list ("is","the", etc.) . This list is available in next tab (described below) and configurable.
  • "min.frequency" specifies the lowest frequency values to be included.

Concordance section contains the min. level of frequency (default=1 , all frequencies) , option to filter words by the list of ignored words and by numbers . "Context length" number shows how many words will be attached before and after the word to display the context.

"Context stop chars" option is similar to the same option in "Phrase frequency".

Wordforms applies to the same named tab and contains settings:

  • "length(characters)" number and "minimal/exact" radio button; By default, program counts strings of length starting from 5. Values <4 are not practically advisable at least in English text analysis.
  • "prefixes only" ; when this option is on (default), Textanz counts only prefix word parts or full words but not suffixes and middle substrings.
  • "min.frequency" specifies the lowest frequency values to be included.

CSV export specifies parameters of comma-separated values : delimiters, quotes and other.

Auto-save layout option allows to save Textanz window size and position between sessions.

"Ignored words" tab provides interface to add, delete and modify words that should not be included in word frequency list and in concordance:

Ignored words

Ignored words

Changes in this list are persistent, i.e. will be stored when you close Textanz. In "Words/phrases", they will not be ignored in phrases but only as single words.

In "Settings" tab you can optionally disable the exclusion of ignored words.
