  1. Create the model hierarchy of objectives and sub-criteria. It's important to keep similar sub-criteria grouped together under an objective to reduce the errors and inconsistencies in the judgments.
  2. Add the alternatives which are the items that are being decided.
  3. Judge the criteria using pairwise ratings indicating the relative importance of each criterion. You can also perform direct weighting of the criteria versus relative importance (i.e., entering cost or performance metrics).
  4. Judge the alternatives using pairwise and direct weighting against the lowest level criteria.
  5. Review the recommendation and analyze the results.
