Gantt Chart view
Gantt Chart consists of two parts: the left part is the task list, the right one is their graphic representation. The field headings are in the upper part.

The left part contains the following columns: Task Number, Task Name, Start Date, End Date, Duration, Percent Completed and Total Cost. The right side displays tasks as graphic timelines. The length of time bars indicates tasks duration and their location on the calendar during their completion.
The width of columns is adjustable: set the cursor on the right margin of the column you’d like to modify- the cursor will change into two-sided arrow. Drag the column border in the required direction .
You can also adjust the width of the left/right side of the diagram.
You can change the location of columns as well. Drag the column by the title panel with a mouse and move it to necessary place.
Editing the task name
To change the task name you should select the cell and enter the required name.
If you want just to edit task name (i.e. to change but not to substitute it completely) you should activate the edit mode. This can be performed in two ways:
- by double click
- by two successive clicks - by first click the cell is selected, by second click the edit mode is activated
To save changes your should quit the edit mode. Just click on any place of the screen.
Adding/deleting task/subtask
In this Lesson we will learn how to edit Gantt Chart. Let’s start task operations. You can operate selected tasks only. The bigger part of commands is available via menu, context menu and toolbar.
In this section we’ll find out how to add/delete tasks and subtasks. We first select a task, and then we make the necessary action by one of the following methods:
Adding the task:
- Select a cell with a task. Press Insert key. The task will be added right after the selected one.
Adding the task before the selected one:
- Use Insert New Task in menu Tasks.
- Use Insert New Task in the context menu.
- Use icon Insert new task
on the toolbar Task.
Adding the task at the end of the task-list:
- Use Append Task in menu Tasks.
- Use Append Task in the context menu.
Adding the subtask
- Use Insert New Subtask in menu Tasks.
- Use Insert New Subtask in the context menu.
- Use icon Insert new subtask
on the toolbar Task.
Copying/inserting tasks
Reiterated tasks can be copied and pasted. Use commands Copy / Paste in menu Edit. For quick selection of all tasks simultaneously, use the command Select All in menu Edit.
It is also possible to insert task lists, separated with line feed, from other applications (E.g. Notepad, Word or Excel). In this case each new line will be inserted as a separate task.
Deleting task
- Use Delete Task(s) in menu Tasks.
- Use Delete Task in the context menu.
- Use Delete Task icon
on the toolbar Task.
Task: Let’s add task "Arrange the trip" to our example. Select "Buy food" and add a new task. Activate edit mode by double-clicking and enter the name of the new task.
Note: before saving the document it’s necessary to quit the edit mode otherwise the name of the task edited will not be saved.
Then add more subtasks to the given task: "Hire a bus to take people there and back", "Buy food" and "Buy lacking equipment".
We’ll also add subtask "Find out about the equipment on hand and the equipment to buy" to the end of the task "Plan the picnic". For this, select "Plan the picnic" and use Add Subtask.
