Manipulating Items

Selecting

To select the anyone element, do one of the following:

Mouse Mouse Click it by mouse.
Keyboard Keyboard Use the Arrow keys.

Adding Items

The current topic is displayed highlighted. Start with the Main Idea.

To add the topic or subtopic, do one of the following:

Toolbar Toolbar Click the Add Topic Add Topic or Add Subtopic Add Subtopic button on the Topic Management toolbar.
Menu Menu Choose the Add Topic or Add Subtopic item from the Topic menu.
Context menu Context menu Choose the Add Topic or Add Subtopic item from the topic context menu.
Keyboard Keyboard Use the following keys:
Enter, Ctrl + Space - Add a topic of the same level as that of the currently selected one.
Insert, Shift + Enter - Add a subtopic to the selected topic.
If no topic is selected or the main idea is selected, a new topic will be added to it.

Use the mouse or Arrow keys to select another item if necessary.

To delete the active item, do one of the following:

Toolbar Toolbar Click the Delete Delete button on the Main toolbar.
Menu Menu Choose the Delete item from the Edit menu.
Keyboard Keyboard Press Delete.

In this way you can build the whole outline of your Mind Map by entering the topics in any order: the application lets you position the new items easily into the whole hierarchy, and also edit them and manipulate them in different ways.

Editing Items

To switch to the editing mode, select the item and do one of the following:

Menu Menu Сhoose the Edit Text item from the Edit menu.
Context menu Context menu Сhoose the Edit Text command from the item context menu.
Mouse Mouse Double-click on the topic.
Keyboard Keyboard Simply start typing the text.
Press F2.

After the text is entered you need exit the editing mode.

For this do one of the following:

Mouse Mouse Сlick the mouse outside the text.
Keyboard Keyboard Press Enter.
Press F2 again.
Press Esc to quit the text editing mode without applying the changes.

Folding and Unfolding

In Outline mode you can choose to show/hide the subtopics related to an item.

Folding To fold up the subtopics of an item, just click on its icon displaying a "minus". The child topics will be hidden, and the icon will turn into "plus" to indicate that. If an item is selected you can fold up its subtopics, just pressing Left Arrow key.
Unfolding To unfold the subtopics of an item, click on its icon containing a "plus" or select this item and press Right Arrow key.

Reordering the Items

To facilitate creating of your Mind Map outline, ConceptDraw MINDMAP lets you reorder the items by moving them to another level or changing their order within one level.

To move the selected item, do one of the following:

Toolbar Toolbar Click one of the following button on the Topic Management toolbar:
Outdent item - Outdent item (one level closer to the root)
Indent item - Indent item (one level deeper)
Move item to the previous position - Move item to the previous position (one line up)
Move item to the next position - Move item to the next position (one line down)
Menu Menu Choose one of the Topic Outdent, Topic Indent, Move To Previous Position, Move To Next Position items from the Topic menu.
Mouse Mous Simply drag the item on the needed place.
Keyboard Keyboard Use the following keys:
Ctrl + Left - Outdent item (one level closer to the root)
Ctrl + Right - Indent item (one level deeper)
Ctrl + Up - Move item to the previous position (one line up)
Ctrl + Down - Move item to the next position (one line down)

Auto numeration

ConceptDraw MINDMAP allows you automatically numerate topics.

For this do one of the following:

Toolbar Toolbar Click the Auto Numeration Auto Numeration button on the Map Management toolbar.
Menu Menu Check the Auto Numeration item in the Map menu.

Other objects in the Outline view

There are three columns to the left of the main area used to display objects, attached to topics: T – for text notes, H – for hyperlinks, and Symbols - for symbols (read more about them in the "Text Notes", "Using Hyperlinks", "Symbols" sections). To add an object to the topic, select the item in the list and proceed as in the diagram view.
