Creation of Project Oriented Mind Maps
Creation of a map. Adding information about the task. Sorting the topics by criteria. Exporting to ConceptDraw Project and MS Project.
Sometimes for solving of some tasks there can be required complex technologies. To design, manage and complete the task you need a powerful tool that can work with many varying types of information. For example, you are charged with the development of a new web site. The contents for your web site can be easily drawn with the help of a mind map. A web site is a very complex structure that usually requires the time and talents of more than one person. Getting ready the contents for the site can involve a large team of people. Note that each participant in the new web development process is usually treated as a shared resource, that is why it is necessary to specify the estimated time for the competition of each task and for each available resource. With ConceptDraw MINDMAP, it is easier to make drafts of web-page contents and then plan their preparation. In ConceptDraw MINDMAP , we can make drafts of the new web-pages and we can also specify the time needed for their completion, their authors , and even the task progress at any given moment. If more detailed planning is required, the MINDMAP document can be opened in ConceptDraw Project - the program intended for project management or exported to MS Project.
Now you can construct a map of the following structure:

This map represents the site structure. Now we can establish inside the topics of the map the status of the tasks and specify their parameters. For this:
- Select appropriate topics one after another.
- Activate the Task Info floating dialog by clicking the corresponding tab or open it using the View / Dialogs / Task info menu command.
- Set the properties of the tasks.

Using this method you can now assign properties for each task. The icon will appear on the topics that have task information indicating that the topic represents a part of the process with some task specific properties. Now assign the status of the task to each topic and specify the time of completion for all tasks.
For determining task progress the corresponding symbol for indication of the task completion degree is added. There are 8 icons indicating different degrees of task progress. The symbol represents a non-finished task. Changing the task progress state can be accomplished by moving from one icon to another using a double-click. For example, the current task progress of 50% complete is indicated by the icon . With a double-click the icon can be changed to 65 % complete.
In our example, the number 1 task is to complete the sections Products and Downloads. Task status can be updated with a simple double-click.

To remove the status of a task from a topic, select the topic and use Task Info / Delete command from the menu Format or from the context menu of the topic.
ConceptDraw MINDMAP allows you automatically sort the topics in your map. For this:
- Open the Sort topics dialog using the
button on the Map Management toolbar or the Map / Sort Topics... menu command.
- You can sort the map topics by task percentage complete. Other settings we will leave by default - sorting forwards only main topics.

For example, we need to finish the project part of the mind map document and coordinate the completion time of tasks with other tasks executed by employees. To do this using of only ConceptDraw MINDMAP tools is not enough. For this you can open your mind map document in the application for work with projects ConceptDraw MINDMAP or export and open in MS Project.
You can open the document in ConceptDraw Project directly from ConceptDraw MINDMAP Professional and continue working with it. For this save the document and apply the File / Open in CD Project command. ConceptDraw Project must be installed on your computer. For this purpose, you can also download a 30-day no cost trial version of ConceptDraw Project and try working in it.
To export a mind map to MS Project use the File / Export / MS Project XML... menu command.
The map can be imported backwards to ConceptDraw MINDMAP Professional using File / Import / ConceptDraw Project Document... and File / Import / MS Project XML... commands.
The bottom line:
- In ConceptDraw MINDMAP you can create mind maps that contain tasks with specific parameters: percentage complete, resources, etc.
- Any topic can be turned into a task.
- For simple tasks ConceptDraw MINDMAP can be used as a tool for planning.
- The topics of a mind map can be sorted in different ways.
- For more complicated tasks mixed technologies can be used for work with documents.
- The export / import functions allows you to change the document look: turn your mind map to a Gantt chart and backwards to mind map
