MSN Messenger
Click on the MSN Messenger panel of the Privacy Items Messaging tab to show the options for your MSN Messenger items (as per screenshot at right) and then choose the items you'd like to clean and wash by checking the relevant checkboxes.
Note: The options below permanently delete files from MSN Messenger folders on your computer. It is assumed that files that you want to keep are stored (securely) elsewhere on your system.
- My Chat log folder: MSN Messenger stores every character, 'wink' and 'nudge' of every IM conversation you hold - completely unencrypted and easily reachable to anyone with access to your PC! (Your conversation history with any of your Messenger contacts can be seen under 'View Message History' in MSN Messenger). Just as in the 'real world', there are certain conversations that we'd like to keep private and confidential.
Total Privacy allows you to keep the eavesdroppers at bay, by deleting this stored history of your private IM conversations from your system. Simply check the My Chat log folder item to delete this folder and the conversation files contained within.
- My Received Files folder: One of the quick and useful features of MSN Messenger is the ability to quickly share important files or photos with your contacts. However, again, a full record of these files that you exchange is kept by MSN Messenger.
Keep your confidential files and photos private with Total Privacy by deleting this store of received files from MSN Messenger. Check the My Received Files folder item to delete this folder and the files contained within.
- My Shared Files: MSN Messenger (through the MSN File Sharing service) allows you to share files and photos with your contacts and often this is very convenient. Of course, discretion should be exercised when making any file available for sharing, but to be totally secure and certain that any sensitive information remains private, use Total Privacy to clean and wash MSN's record of these files. Check the My Shared Files item to delete the MSN Messenger folder containing these items.
Tip: Move (or hover) the mouse cursor over any privacy washing item on the screen to get further information and a brief description of that item.
