Secure Data Deletion
Windows uses such a file system that only marks files as deleted when deleting them, and the information in them remains on the disk even if you empty the 'Recycle Bin'. There is a lot of means to restore files that were deleted this way, and even a schoolboy can use them. The information will be really erased (partially or completely) when the system overwrites this file with some other file. Unfortunately, it may take long for this to happen. So standard ways to delete data from a usual disk cannot be afforded when working with confidential data.
StrongDisk Pro system includes the Burner utility, which is provided to delete files with completely erasing their contents so that they cannot be recovered.
To delete a file or a folder with the Burner drag this file or folder on the "Data Burner" shortcut that appears on your desktop after StrongDisk Pro is installed.
If the desktop is hidden under the windows of applications, you can right-click the file or the folder in the Explorer and select "Burn" in the popup menu.
Files on StrongDisk Pro protected disks may be deleted by usual means since recovering them requires at least mounting the protected disk, i.e. having the password and/or key to it.
If you are moving files from one disk to another (usual or protected) then what happens physically is copying the files that is followed by deleting them from the source disk. That is, the files are not fully deleted and can be recovered. To avoid this you have to copy the files instead of moving them and then delete the source files with the Burner utility.
If for some reason you have deleted a file on a usual disk by usual means, you can sweep the free space on this disk. After sweeping the free space on a disk it is impossible to recover the information from the deleted files. |
