Copying External Keys
A password stored in an external key can be copied to another external key. If the copy is done from an electronic key to an electronic key then the copy is identical to the original and can provide access to the disks accessed with the original key. If the password was copied from an electronic key to a file-key it can be then copied from a file-key back to an electronic key, not necessarily being the one from which the copy was made in the first place. Using the electronic key itself or its copy in a file-key are equivalent.
Each key can store just one external code.
To copy an electronic key or a file-key:
- Select item "Service"à"Copy Key" in the "Main menu".
- In the "Copy Key" dialog put the switches in positions to show what and where are you going to copy to.
If the source electronic key has been initialized in the protected mode, you will have to enter the PIN code to make a copy.
- If you copy to or from a file-key, enter the file name and the full path in the corresponding fields. You can click "Browse" to select a file.
- Click "Copy".
Do not insert two keys simultaneously. The system itself will ask you to insert the necessary key when needed.
- An alert will be shown if the electronic key or the file-key already contains a code. Re-initialization of a file-key or an electronic key overwrites the code stored in it with a new one.
The above-mentioned sequence can be used to copy the external code from a file-key to a file-key, but it is meaningless since one can copy or move files using standard Windows functions.
If the file-key containing an external code is temporarily stored on a hard disk, it should be deleted from the hard disk using Burner utility. If the file-key is deleted by usual means, there remain some chances of recovering it. |
