Carriers

Carrier = a file in which you can hide data using specific methods. Carriers are usually multimedia files (images, sounds, meshes, webpages, etc.)

Invisible Secrets provides five carriers: JPEG, PNG, BMP, HTML and WAV.

The first three are images files.

The JPEGs and PNGs files can be put on a web page near hundreds of other pictures from where the addressee (the only person who knows which is the right image) can download it without revealing his/hers identity. There are no data length restrictions for the JPEG and PNG carriers.

The BMP carriers gives the best security, but the data which can be hidden depends on the size of the BMP file. This carrier uses the least-significant-bit steganographic method.

The WAV carrier is a sound file. It is a very secure carrier but the data which can be hidden in it depends on the size of the WAV file. This carrier uses the least-significant-bit steganographic method.

The HTML carrier is a hyper-text file (Internet page). It is a very powerful carrier. Highly secured, it doesn’t restrict the length of the sensitive data. However, a very long HTML may look suspect!

All of them can be sent as an attachment to an e-mail ( which probably contains an innocent irrelevant message ).

Important: By converting the carriers to another format it is possible to lose the encrypted message from the original carrier. You should test your conversion software before anything else.

Invisible Secrets offers you the possibility to develop and install new carriers.

To install a new carrier follow these steps:

  1. Open the Options Dialog Box
  2. Choose the Carriers page
  3. Click the Add carrier button
  4. Fill the edit boxes with: a name for the new carrier, a library file name (.DLL), carrier file extensions separated by semicolons (Ex: *.bmp;*.dib) and an activation key
  5. Click Ok

You can find information on how to develop your own carriers on our web site.
