Selection Tool
The Selection tool allows to select a rectangular area of the image.
The following steps show how to activate and use this tool:
- On the Drawing Tools box, click the Selection
button.
In response to this action, the tool becomes activated. The Option Selector box shows the Selection tool's options:

- In the Option Selector box, select the background's type for the selection. Do one of the following:
Click the Transparent Background button to apply a transparent background for the selection.
Click the Opaque Background button to apply an opaque background for the selection.
Note. The background's type for the selection can be changed anytime while the tool is activated.
- Click the image on the starting point of the desired area.
- Holding the mouse button down, drag the cursor to the diagonally opposite point (final point).
- Release the mouse button when you have selected the desired area.
Notes.
- You can perform the following manipulations with the selection:
- Move it to a new location of the image. To do this, click inside the selected area and holding the mouse button down, drag the selection to the new place.
- Erase it. See the "Erase the selected area of the image" page for details.
- Copy or cut it to the clipboard. See the "Clipboard manipulations" page for details.
- Apply to it filters and effects. See "Applying Filters" and "Applying Effects" pages for details.
- To turn off the selection, do one of the following:
- Click the image inside it (without dragging);
- Click the image outside it.
