Applying Effects
The current version of Paint Express allows to apply the following effects on 32-bits images:
- Change the brightness of the image;
- Change the contrast of the image;
- Change the opacity of the image;
- Convert the image to grayscale.
Note. The effect is applied to the entire image, or to the selected area of the image if there is a selection.
To change the brightness of the image
- On the Draw\Effects menu, click Brightness.
In response to this action, the Adjust Brightness window opens:

- Drag the slider to set the brightness value, or type it directly in the edit box.
- To preview the changes of the image, check the Preview box.
- Click the OK button.
Notes.
- Brightness value can range from -255 to 255.
- If the brightness value is set to 0, the image remains unchanged.
To change the contrast of the image
- On the Draw\Effects menu, click Contrast.
In response to this action, the Adjust Contrast window opens:

- Drag the slider to set the contrast value, or type it directly in the edit box.
- To preview the changes of the image, check the Preview box.
- Click the OK button.
Notes.
- Contrast value can range from -100 to 100.
- If the contrast value is set to 0, the image remains unchanged.
To change the opacity of the image
- On the Draw\Effects menu, click Opacity.
In response to this action, the Adjust Opacity window opens:

- Drag the slider to set the opacity value, or type it directly in the edit box.
- To preview the changes of the image, check the Preview box.
- Click the OK button.
Notes.
- Opacity value can range from -100 to 100.
- If the opacity value is set to 0, the image remains unchanged.
To convert the image to grayscale
On the Draw\Effects menu, click Grayscale.
Note. The grayscale mode uses up to 256 shades of gray. Every pixel of a grayscale image has a brightness value ranging from 0 (black) to 255 (white).
