Troubleshooting
Animation/Video problems
I can't scroll to see all of the imported images?
On some computers, the grid control might not resize itself properly. To resolve the problem:
- Point between 'Image' and 'Frames' labels: the mouse pointer should change to double-arrow, and
- Click, hold the button down, and drag to the left to reduce the size of the 'Image' field until the scroll bar pops into view.
The scrolling should now work properly.
AVI gets created, but the colors look corrupted?
This problem appears if you are running Windows in 256-color mode. The program is designed to work in True color (24 bits or 32 bits). To solve the problem, open Control Panel/Display/Settings and change the color palette to True color.
I cannot create an AVI?
Some codecs are sensitive to byte-alignment. Try changing the image size so that both width and height are divisible by 4, or select a different codec. If you cannot change or select a codec, or your codec gives you an error, some codec files or registry entries may be missing or corrupted. The dialog will not open if you have no codecs in place. To resolve the problem please do the following:
- Back up your registry, then locate AVI.reg file in the AnimHelp directory and double-click to open it.
That should restore all of your "factory default" AVI registry settings.
- If using AVI.reg didn't help, you need to reinstall Video for Windows:
- Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup, and
- Un-check Check 'Multimedia' and hit 'OK'.
- That will remove what is left of your Multimedia components. After that:
- Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup, and
- Check 'Multimedia' and hit 'OK'.
I have xxx codec installed, but it doesn't seem to work?
If you can use other codecs successfully you probably don't have the license to use that particular codec. The only codec that we know of that does not work with the program is Microsoft RLE codec.
The program creates the AVI, but my PowerPoint presentation will not work with it.
Some codec-s produce AVI files that PowerPoint cannot read. Select Options/AVI Settings from the menu and select a different codec.
My AVI files won't work with Windows Animation Control?
To use AVI-s with the Animation Control you need to create them using "Uncompressed frames" option. Also, even though the documentation states that the Animation Control supports transparency, that is not the case. It merely allows you to convert one color to default Window color, which won't help you one bit if you are animating over bitmapped backgrounds. C++ programmers can find source code for the real transparent animation control at CodeGuru Web site.
My MPEG files seem pixelated?
We are using internal MPEG engine to produce MPEG-2 format - it is not suitable for computer-drawn graphics, only for photographic images. However, you can produce high-quality highly-compressed MPEG-s with third-party MPEG-4 codecs. We have tested 2 excellent codecs - they are free to download and use and they work nicely.
Please note that the files created will have the .avi extension. If you used one of the MPEG-4 codecs you can rename the resulting .avi to .mpg or .mpeg.
Morphing produces an error?
Morphing only works with 16, 24 or 32 bit display (High color or True color). Open Control Panel/Display/Settings and specify 24-bit or 32-bit color when you need to use the morphing.
My animation is too fast?
Use Options/Frame Replication off the menu to slow it down.
Drag-and-drop leaves the newly imported images out of order
You can always click on "Images" header to sort them.
Sound problems
The program converts a WAV file to MP3, but the sound is terrible
Low-quality WAV files do not convert well. Make sure the WAV file is 44100Hz 16-bit mono or stereo before converting.
I can't play/delete/overwrite the extracted sound file?
It is likely the codec didn't properly close the file after extracting it from an AVI. Shut down the program then try playing the file.
