How can this application copy files so much faster than Windows?
Is it possible to download files better than with non-resumable Internet Explorer? Or defragment a hard-drive faster and more optimal than with Windows' defrag utility? Is it possible to edit images better than with Windows' Paint? Or edit text documents better than with Notepad? What about repartitioning hard-drives? Is Windows' fdisk always up to the task?
Windows has been designed to be a heavily third-party improvable operating system. While this may sound absurd to some, it is true in every respect. Let's ponder on this affirmation for a second or two. What would Microsoft have to gain from making Windows the perfect operating system? Sure, they could hire a few more thousand programmers to write every gadget and application you could ever desire, but would it be worth it? It would primarily stiffle application development on their platform and bring about antitrust lawsuits. Not a desirable state indeed.
Therefore it should not be too big of a surprise that things which you consider normal and efficient, eventually turn out to be heavily improvable.
How do I make use of the BurstCopy context menus?
Two ways to use them are available:
- Drag-and-drop:
Select the files you wish to copy in Windows Explorer. Drag the files using the right-mouse button over to the destination folder. Select one of the BurstCopy options from the context menu that pops up when you let go of the right-mouse button.
- Copy-Paste:
Select the files you wish to copy in Windows Explorer. Copy the files into the clipboard by right clicking on the files and selecting the Copy option. Go to the destination folder window and right-click within it (on empty space, not on files). Select one of the BurstCopy options from the context menu that pops up.
How do I select the source file if context menus aren't available on my system?
You will have to manually open the application, select the files you wish to transfer from an Explorer window, and drag-and-drop them into the application. Do note that when you start the transfer, only the last dropped files will be transferred. This means that if you drag-and-drop files into the application several times without starting the transfer, only the last dropped files will be transferred.
How do I change the application's language?
If you are using any skin but the default, right click anywhere on the skin and select the 'Customize' option from the pop-up menu that appears. Choose your preferred language from the General page of the Options window, and click the OK button.
How do I use the application if I don't have the BurstCopy context menus?
- Manually start the application.
- In Windows Explorer, select the files you wish to transfer.
- Drag-and-drop the files from Explorer to the application.
- Select the destination. This can be done in either of three ways.
- Go to the File menu and choose 'Select Destination'.
- Press the disk-imaged button just above the left side of the progress bar.
- Double click the text label 'Select destination folder'.
- Start the transfer. This can be done in either of two ways:
- Go to the Actions menu and choose 'Start Transfer'.
- Press the yellow lightning imaged button just above the left side of the progress bar.
Please note that you cannot move files directly if you do not have the BurstCopy context menus. You have to first copy the files with BurstCopy and then delete the source files manually.
Why is the Transfer Buffer setting grayed out during transfers?
Because the buffer is already in use. To change it, you have to manually start the application.
Why is remaining time estimation inaccurate?
Time estimation varies depending on a number of factors.
- Disk fragmentation, this can be remedied by periodically using a disk defragmenter. One is supplied with Windows, and various other commercial disk defragmenters are available on the market.
- Other applications accessing the hard-drive at the same time.
- Transfer rate on different areas of the hard-drive may differ. This may or may not apply to your particular system, depending on your hard-drive manufacturer.
- The size of the transferred files can play a significant role. Many small files will transfer far slower than few large or huge files.
