Viewing Log Files & Updating Maps

Viewing Log files

Use the Logs menu to View the 4 available log files.

These windows are modeless, meaning that you can interact with NetworkView while they are open. You can also reposition and resize them according to your needs.

  • Select the Logs menu, Event Log to view the <docname>.his file. This file contains the UP and DOWN events
  • Select the Logs menu, Email Log to view the <docname>.log file. This file contains all the sent emails

The two files above are specific to the document.

  • Select the Logs menu, Discovery Log to view the log.txt file, Discovery. This file contains the detail of the discovery process.
  • Select the Logs menu, Error Log to view the smtperr.log file. This file may contain errors in SMTP transactions.

The two previous files are common to all documents.

  • Use the Refresh button to reload the file
  • Use the Purge button to empty the file
  • Use the Find button to find an item in any column

Updating the Maps

Updating maps is useful when:

drive recovery program reset passwords notebook data recovery
usb data recovery software unerase digital photos data recovery pen drive
best data recovery data recovery program professional data recovery software
  • You want to keep the information that you entered manually
  • You have a network with DHCP clients (dynamic addressing from a pool of IP addresses)
  • You change frequently the names of some nodes
  • There are many new and removed nodes

To update an existing map, you can choose whether the name or the IP address is the real identifier of the node.

  • If you use DHCP, you select the DNS name as the permanent ID. You think that the properties of the nodes are tied to the name, and the address is the always changing property
  • If your nodes or PC names are tied to user names or location, their names change frequently and you can use the IP address as the identifier

To set the other options for updating a map and dealing with obsolete nodes, see the  General tab in Discovery Options.
