Monitoring

The monitoring process checks the status of all or sa few selected nodes, in one or in several maps.
Currently, only ICMP is used to verify tha a node is active.

  • Click on the Monitor button in the Operation toolbar.
  • Decide how often the polling process will be executed. The value is in seconds.
  • Specify a timeout value in milliseconds. The process will try 3 times to reach a node, each time doubling this basic value.

This status will be reflected in the map with 4 different colors:

download data recovery software windows drive restore data recovery utilities downloads
digital picture unerase restore usb drive formatted pen drive recovery
password recovery software download deleted partition restore notebook recovery
  • White is the color of unmonitored nodes. It is the default color when monitoring is not active, or when you have specified that this node should not be monitored. See Disable Monitoring or Alerting.
  • Blue indicates an uncertain status. The node has not been polled yet.
  • Green shows a nodes that was reachable with the ICMP (ping) process (UP).
  • Red means the nodes could not be reached before the timeout you specified in the parameters. Be sure to choose a timeout greater than the average response time on your network. With a timeout set correctly, it means that the node is DOWN.

Monitoring process

  • When a map is loaded, the monitoring is Off by default, (unless you used the /M parameter on the command line).
  • When you start the monitoring, NetworkView will repeatedly indicate "Monitoring is On/Active", then "Monitoring is On/Inactive" in the status bar.
  • "Monitoring is On/Active" is shown when NetworkView is actively pinging the machines in your map.
  • "Monitoring is On/Inactive" is the period when no monitoring is done, but the program is waiting for the next round.

While monitoring is ON (Active or Inactive), a few functions are disabled (delete node for example). Turn monitoring off if you have to use one of these functions.
