Wavelet Images
LuraWave (LWF) is a new image format based on wavelet compression. Compared to JPG, the LuraWave format delivers higher image quality at a much smaller file size. The LuraWave format can be either lossless as PNG or lossy as JPG, and in lossy mode it won't suffer the blocky artefacts of JPG compression.
When an image is saved as a LuraWave file it can be compressed as either baseline or embedded. An image that is compressed as embedded will be progressively downloaded over the internet by Inzomia. This feature lets users very quickly see a low detail version of the image and as more and more data gets downloaded, more and more detail is added. This is possible since the wavelet compression algorithm places important information in the image first in the file. Embedded Lurawave files are ideal for low bandwidth users who quickly can get a view of really large images. It allows a webpage to have really high quality images without sacrificing performance for low bandwidth users.
