Pages

Flying Popcorn projects are divided into pages. Like the pages of the book, each page has its own content and the viewer moves from page to page. If you have seen a PowerPoint presentation, this should be a familiar concept to you. Most of the functions related to pages are contained in the (1) the Page List panel at the left of the canvas (2) the Page menu and (3) the Page Properties window.

Using the Page List panel

The Page List panel is located to the left of the canvas and contains a number of important and convenient functions related to pages. It is composed of two tabs: the Page tab and the Template tab.

The Page tab

You can see that the Page tab shows a list of all the pages in the project, with thumbnail images of each one. The page number of each page is shown in the top left corner of the thumbnail. To navigate through the pages, simply click each one. To create a new page, click the thumbnail labeled New Page that sits just after the last page in your project. If you right-click a page, a context menu will appear that allows you to cut, copy, paste, delete, insert, and rename your pages.

At the top of the page tab are 5 icons that you can click. Their functions are as follows.

  1. (Preview page IN effect): Previews the page's IN effect. For more information, see Adding In/Out effects to pages.
  2. (Preview page ACT effect): Previews the page's ACT effect. For more information, see Adding In/Out effects to pages
  3. (Preview page OUT effect): Previews the page's OUT effect. For more information, see Adding In/Out effects to pages.
  4. (Preview object IN/OUT effects): Previews the IN and OUT effects for all objects on the page. For more information, see Adding In/Out effects to objects.
  5. (Default(Master) page settings): Opens the Default(Master) Page Properties dialog box. For more information, see Adjusting the default page settings.

Creating a new page

Each project begins with one page and new pages can be continually added to it. You can append new pages to the end of the project (after the last page) or insert them in between existing pages. If you enable the default page, each new page will have the default page settings. Otherwise, it will just be a blank page.

To append a new page to the end of a project

  • Do one of the following:
    • Right-click any page in the Page List, and click Append New in the context menu.
    • In the Page menu, click Append New Page.
    • Click the page labeled New Page at the end of the page list. On it, you can see the icon.

To insert a new page in front of an existing page

  • Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the page in the Page List, and click Insert New in the context menu.
    • In the Page menu, click Insert New Page.

Saving and restoring the editing status of a page

The editing status of a page includes objects' positions and sizes and whether they are locked/unlocked and shown/hidden. There are two functions that you can use to save the editing status and then later restore it: Modify & Restore Status and Save & Restore Status. These functions are useful if you want to keep a certain editing status, but need to change it in order to modify certain objects. For example, if you have many hidden objects or many layers of objects, and you wish to change the properties of one of the objects, you can use these functions make the changes without altering the settings or arrangement of the other objects in the work page.

To save the editing status

  1. In the Page menu, point to Current Page and click Save & Restore Status.
  2. Check the Save current editing status checkbox and click OK.
  3. To restore the editing status
  4. In the Page menu, point to Current Page and click Save & Restore Status.
  5. Check the Restore last saved status checkbox.
  6. Check the checkboxes for the attributes you want to restore and click OK.

To use the Modify & Restore Status command

  1. In the Page menu, point to Current Page and click Modify & Restore Status.
  2. In the Modify & Restore dialog box, check the checkboxes for the attributes you want to restore.
  3. With the dialog box still open, make the modifications to the page that you want.
  4. When you want to restore the status, click OK in the dialog box.
