Copying Properties Between Feeds

Introduction
EventMeister allows you to quickly and easily copy selected properties from one feed and apply them to any number of other feeds. This is accomplished through the "Copy Feed Properties" dialog. There are three ways to view this dialog:

1) Select a feed in the left hand side of the main window, then choose "Copy Properties To..." from the Feeds menu, OR

2) Right-click on a feed in the main window and choose "Copy Properties To..." from the resulting popup menu, OR

3) Edit the feed that has the required properties, and press the button marked "Copy Properties To..." in the resulting property sheet

Choosing What To Copy
At the very top of the "Copy Feed Properties" dialog is the name of the feed whose properties are to be copied (the source feed). Immediately below this are the various categories of properties that can be copied. You can choose which properties should be copied and which should be left untouched by tick/unticking the appropriate boxes.

Here is a run-down of the available categories, and the properties they affect:

Capacity
Tick this category to copy the capacity settings of the source feed.

Filter
If you tick this category, everything on the "Filter" page of the source feed's properties will be faithfully copied to the destination feeds.

Polling Schedule
This category copies all settings on the "Scheduling" page of the source feed's properties.

Report Trigger
This category covers the settings that determine if/when a feed report should be generated, including the enabled state, the store size trigger and the trigger schedule. Note that each destination feed will only be enabled if there is no missing information that will prevent it from running successfully.

Report Delivery
This category copies all settings that determine how the report should be generated and delivered, including the base filename, the file format (and for HTML, the transformation template) and the optional recipient email address. As this setting gives all destination feeds the same base filename for reports, you may wish to use it in conjunction with the "Report uses feed name" option - see below.

Report Uses Feed Name
This option is only available when you you have opted to copy the report delivery settings. It changes the base filename given to each of the destination feeds. When this option is set, each report will go to the same directory, but the filename will be based on the feed name, making it easier to determine which reports belong to which feed.

Event Retrieval Mode
Selecting this category causes all destination feeds to use the same event gathering method (polling or catch on arrival) as the source feed.

Event Logon
This is only available for non-local event log feeds, and causes the same logon credentials (account/pwd) to be used by the destination feeds when connecting to the remote PCs. There is one exception to this: if one of the destination feeds is for a local event log, the logon credentials will be ignored as they are not relevant to local feeds.

Notifications
Ticking this category causes the destination feeds to have the exact same notification assignments as the source feed, i.e. notifications will be added and removed as necessary.

Choosing The Destination Feeds
The lower portion of the dialog is used to choose which feeds should receive the selected properties.

To select or deselect all the feeds in a group, first click on the group to highlight it, then click Select All or Select None as appropriate. If no item is highlighted, then clicking Select All or Select None affects all feeds in the list, regardless of group.

Applying The Changes
When you have chosen the properties you wish to copy and the feeds that should receive them, press the OK button. In most cases the changes will be applied immediately, but if you are in the middle of editing the source properties, nothing will happen until you have finished.

The changes will be applied to the destination feeds in sequence. Each feed will first be stopped, changed as specified and then restarted. If you are applying changes to many feeds, this may take a moment or two to complete.
