Traffic Usage Policy: How To

This section provides instructions on how to configure a traffic usage policy in the NetworkShield Firewall 2006.

• Create a traffic usage rule
  
• Create a quota
  
• Apply quotas to traffic rules
  
• Edit traffic usage rules
  
• Edit quotas

To create a traffic usage rule

• In the console tree of NetworkShield Firewall:
  
  • Expand NetworkShield Firewall 2006.
    
  • Click Traffic Usage Policy.
    
• Click Create a Traffic Usage Rule on the Toolbar.
  
• In the New Traffic Usage Rule Wizard, follow the on-screen instructions.

Note

To update configuration click the Apply button in the Information Bar above the configuration section.

To create a new quota

• In the console tree of NetworkShield Firewall:
  
  • Expand NetworkShield Firewall 2006.
    
  • Expand Configuration.
    
  • Click Quotas.
    
• Click Create a New Quota on the Toolbar.
  
• In the New Quota Wizard, follow the on-screen instructions.

Note

To update configuration click the Apply button in the Information Bar above the configuration section.

To apply quotas to traffic rules

• In the console tree of NetworkShield Firewall:
  
  • Expand NetworkShield Firewall 2006.
    
  • Click Traffic Usage Policy.
    
• In the configuration section, click the applicable traffic usage rule.
  
• Click Edit Selected Rule on the Toolbar.
  
• To set a quotas for traffic usage rule select the Quota tab.
  
  • Check the Enable quota management.
    
  • Click Add... to add quotas for selected rule.
    
  • In Network Objects, select the applicable quotas and click Add.

Note

To update configuration click the Apply button in the Information Bar above the configuration section.

To edit a traffic usage rule

• In the console tree of NetworkShield Firewall:
  
  • Expand NetworkShield Firewall 2006.
    
  • Click Traffic Usage Policy.
    
• In the configuration section, click the applicable traffic usage rule.
  
• Click Edit Selected Rule on the Toolbar.
  
• To edit the general settings select the General tab.
  
• To edit a protocols for traffic usage rule select the Protocol tab.
  
  • Click Add... to add protocols for selected rule.
    
  • In Network Objects, select the applicable protocols and click Add.
    
• To edit a client for traffic usage rule select the From tab.
  
  • Click Add... to add a source objects for selected rule.
    
  • In Network Objects, select the applicable network objects and click Add.
    
• To edit a destination for traffic usage rule select the To tab.
  
  • Click Add... to add a destination objects for selected rule.
    
  • In Network Objects, select the applicable network objects and click Add.
    
• To edit a counting type for traffic usage rule select the Counting type tab.
  
  • Click Client & Server to count traffic for client and server connections.
    
• Click Client to count only client connections traffic.
  
• To set a quotas for traffic usage rule select the Quota tab.
  
  • Check the Enable quota management.
    
• Click Add... to add quotas for selected rule.
  
• In Network Objects, select the applicable quotas and click Add.
  
• To edit a schedule for access rule select the Schedule tab and select the schedule to apply.

Note

To update configuration click the Apply button in the Information Bar above the configuration section.

To edit a quota

• In the console tree of NetworkShield Firewall:
  
  • Expand NetworkShield Firewall 2006.
    
  • Expand Configuration.
    
  • Click Quotas.
    
• In the configuration section, click the applicable quota record.
  
• Click Edit Selected Quota on the Toolbar.
  
• To edit the General settings select the General tab.
  
• To edit a quota limits select the Limits tab.
  
• To set an action to take when exceeding limit select the Action tab.

Note

To update configuration click the Apply button in the Information Bar above the configuration section.
