What You Should Know About Optimal Desktop

Optimal Desktop makes it real easy to bookmark your favorite destinations and access Internet and desktop folders in the same space.

Optimal Desktop offers a very powerful 3-dimensional Tabbed-Browser. Tabbed-Browser's let you access multiple pages from the same window and they are an essential tool for staying organized on the Internet and removing clutter (Tens of icons and flying windows) from your desktop.

Optimal Desktop offers a very simple drag and drop interface. Simply drag any link from the Internet, or your desktop, Optimal Desktop will add a name and icon and create a new tab.

Creating New Tab

Optimal Desktop makes it very easy to subscribe to blogs and news portals with its built in RSS Reader. RSS, which stands for Real Simple Syndication is a special, link embedded into web pages and blogs. You can recognize RSS feeds on many of the popular web pages by their orange tags.

RSS Feeds

You can organize your information into one or more Cabinets with Optimal Desktop. So, you could set up Cabinets based on subjects, projects and personal interest like news, sports teams, travel destinations, work projects, etc. These can include any combination of your favorite Internet access points, files on your computer's hard drive, and syndicated feeds you subscribe to.

Each Cabinet is organized with a set of up to 32 Drawer Tabs that you define. Drawer Tabs appear as tabs along the top edge of your screen (default configuration, can be changed). You may want to have a Drawer that holds access to your favorite news sites and another for your sports teams and hobbies and yet another for all your favorite blog sites. Again, you have complete flexibility to set these up in any way that is meaningful to you.

Within each Drawer you can define Section Tabs that will contain your individual items. For example, in your News Drawer, you may want multiple Section Tabs for your favorite news sites such as NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post, etc. Each Section stores a link to your information, no matter where it is stored on your hard drive or on the Internet.

Setting up and changing your Cabinet, Drawers, and Section Tabs is very easy to do in Optimal Desktop. In most cases, you just drag and drop something to create a new Section. You can quickly identify the Drawer and the Section by name, icon, or color to make it easy to find and remember. So, setting up and tailoring your desktop makes using this product simple and fun to do. If you don't get things organized quite right the first time you set them up, don't worry, it is very easy to quickly change and modify your organization of tabs.

Section Tabs hold your bookmarks. You can create a Section Tab by simply dragging a folder, file, web page or RSS feed to the Section tab area or on top of the Drawer you want to store the link in. Optimal Desktop offers a complete drag & drop interface. To move links between Drawer's hold the mouse key down while dragging the link over the Drawer, the context will change!

Optimal Desktop assigns icons to your Section Tabs based on the type of link you are storing. You can always change the default icons from the graphic library.

Graphics Library

Page Tabs in Optimal Desktop are temporary windows. When you create a Section Tab a default Page tab is created automatically. You can use Page Tabs to open multiple windows simultaneously. So instead of clicking back and forth while browsing, you can easily open multiple windows and browse them simultaneously. When you switch Cabinets or close Optimal Desktop all of your open Page Tabs will close.

Optimal Desktop makes it real easy to work with RSS feeds. Many web sites offer feeds mostly designated by the orange XML or RSS icons. Simply drag these icons to the side of the window. Optimal Desktop formats the feeds in an outlook type interface and assigns the orange RSS icon to the Section tab. A subscription implies that new headlines get pushed to your desktop when available (depends on your RSS settings). RSS will change the way you surf the web and help you consume and manage information more efficiently.
