Using Your View Options

Using Optimal Desktop™, you can choose to view your information in different ways.

Changing To a Different View

Each panel in Optimal Desktop has 3 views. Tree View is your folder bar, List View is your main window and Preview shows you the contents of files selected in List View.

Changing To a Different View

To change your views manually, activate the caption bar from the toolbar, then right click on it and change your views. The caption bar boxes also let you minimize and maximize windows quickly.

The Toolbar views are F8, F11 and F12. You can change the settings and hot keys for your toolbar views in the State Manager.

The F9 key switches panels. When you change Cabinets all of your open windows close. To keep the windows open, you can work with two panels simultaneously. Use the F9 key to switch panels. The caption bar lets you know which panel is active. You can activate the Caption bar from the "command toolbar" or the View menu.

Expanding a View

By default, Optimal Desktop™ Views are displayed vertically, so that you can view multiple windows at a time. If you want to view more information in a window, you can expand the window horizontally. To do so, right click on the title bar (caption) of the View that you want to expand and select Expand this View Horizontally from the options displayed (Notice that the caption must be visible). If you want to return to the vertical view again, right click on the title bar and select Expand this View Vertically from the options displayed. You can also click the back button Back on the toolbar, to return to the previous display.

Hiding or Showing Views and Tabs

Views: To hide a View, right click on the title bar (caption) of the View that you want to hide. Then select Hide this View from the displayed options. You can return to the previous display by clicking the back Back button on the toolbar.

You can also use the pre-configured States to change your views.

Tabs: You can choose to view or hide Filter Tabs, Drawer Tabs, Section Tabs and Page Tabs in a Cabinet. To do so use the following commands on your toolbar to toggle your tab views;

  • Drawer Tabs On/Off
  • Section Tabs On/Off
  • Page Tabs On/Off
  • Page Tabs Show/Hide
  • Filter Tabs On/Off

The On/Off command for Page Tabs kills all the open page windows, while the Show/Hide button only hides the tabs. Generally when you switch to Filter Tabs from Page Tabs you should use the Show/Hide command to switch back to Page Tabs.

SHIFT + ALT + 1 and SHIFT + Alt + 2 are States designed to show and hide the Drawer and Section Tabs. You can find these commands in the State menu.

You can also use the Shortcut Manager to assign keyboard shortcuts to any of these commands.

Closing Windows

You can close your windows in a number of different ways. The easiest way is to double click on the first Page Tab of any Section. You can also use the commands in the Toolbar to close the current window or get a list of all open windows and choose from the list.

The First Page Tab closes all Open Page Tabs in that Section view. To close Page Tabs individually, double click on them (default configuration).
