Components of Optimal Desktop

Component Definition
Desktop Files Desktop files store all of your desktop settings. You can create and manage multiple desktop files.
Panel(s) A Panel is an instance of the browser. You can operate 2 panels in Optimal Desktop.
Cabinet(s)

Each Cabinet is a user-defined portal that organized your bookmarks in a 2 dimensional tab interface for easy access. You can create a maximum of 128 Cabinets.

Drawer Tabs

A Drawer is used to group bookmarks for easy access. You can create a Drawer from the menu bar or the context menu. You can create a maximum of 30 Drawers for a single Cabinet.

Section Tabs

A Section Tab holds your bookmarks. Optimal Desktop automatically assigns a Name and icon to Section tab when you drag links to the side of the window. You can modify the settings with the Customize Section command from the context menu. You can create a maximum of 30 Section Tabs for a Drawer.

Page Tabs A page is a temporary window for browsing Internet pages. You can open a maximum of 64 pages. Page Tabs like Section Tabs are shortcuts to Internet destinations.
Optimal Bookmark Optimal Bookmark is a special program that manages access to Internet and RSS feeds. You can store and manage 4 types of folders with Optimal Bookmark. Optimal Bookmark is accessible as a folder under the My Computer folder in your directory tree
Desktop Search Desktop Search, searches for bookmarks stored in Cabinet, Drawer, Section Tabs and Optimal Bookmark folders., and RSS headlines stored on your computer. Search windows open in the Page tab area.
Import/Export Manager You can import and export your Cabinet files and share them with other users. A special export module (Feli-X) lets you export read only files.
TreeView Window This is your folder bar.
ListView Window This is your browser window.
PreView Window This window let's you preview files in the selected folder. Works similar to outlook but for your files.
States

These are window and toolbar configurations you design. You can configure a maximum of 128 States for your desktop.

Splitter

The Splitter (accessed from: Tools > Desktop Manager, splits the desktop into windows. You can view a maximum of 4 windows, 2 in each Panel. Tip: If you choose the maximum and one of the windows does not have content, you will receive an error message and the splitter will reset.

Filters & Filter Groups

These are file and folder filters that you define to manage your files. You can create a maximum of 128 Filters and 64 Filter groups for your desktop.

Skins

These are tab and background colors assigned to Cabinet files. You can create a maximum of 128 Skins for your desktop.

Template Manager You can customize and modify the various default settings in Optimal Desktop™. Each element, such as a Section, Drawer, Cabinet, has its own Template (default values), which is used when you create a new element.
Graphics Manager You can import icons and bitmaps to be used with skins and tabs.
Toolbar Manager Here you assign your default settings for Cabinet, Drawer and Section Tabs.
Optimal Archive Compression utility that makes compressed files look and act like windows folders.
Link Recorder A program for storing a sequence of actions on a web page to be played back automatically. The Link recorder is a great tool for recording your Internet passwords once and playing them back automatically (optional feature).
Popup Manager A Program to block unwanted pop-ups automatically (optional feature).
Shortcut Manager This is a program that let's you assign keyboard sequences to both system and Optimal Desktop commands.
RSS Manager Sets the properties for RSS feeds.
Mobile Desktop A Wizard for installing Optimal Desktop™ on your removable drive. This program is accessible from the Start > Programs > Optimal Desktop™ menu (optional feature).
Alias Manager You can define user-defined aliases. These aliases replace system paths. Once a path is replaced with an alias, the underlying folders can be moved and the links will always be valid. Alias Manager is very helpful when used with Mobile Desktop. It automatically translates your desktop shortcuts from computer to computer!
Desktop Manager A Manager program controls each configurable Optimal Desktop™ feature. Access Desktop Manager from the Tools menu.
Feli-X You can export your cabinets using the Feli-X export module. Feli-X files can be loaded by the Feli-X browser and viewed by anyone. The Feli-X browser is a reader program developed by Optimal Access and is free of charge.
