Getting Started

After Offline Explorer Enterprise is installed and running for the first time there are four simple steps to offline browsing.

Step 1. The first time you run Offline Explorer Enterprise, proxy server parameters should be set. It is required if your WWW browser is usually connecting through proxy. If you’re not sure about the proxy server or its settings, please consult your network administrator.

You will need to know the following:

  • Proxy server type: no proxy, HTTP proxy, RTSP, User@Site, SOCKS 4 or SOCKS 5 proxy server
  • If there is a proxy, its address (either IP or DNS name) and its port number
  • If it is an HTTP or SOCKS 5 proxy, the username and password, if necessary
  • If you have a proxy server, then you should select the Options dialog, click the Proxy Server node and enter the settings listed above.
  • The first step is necessary only when you start Offline Explorer Enterprise for the first time or your network configuration has changed.
  • Steps 2-4 are necessary whenever you want to download a Web site for offline browsing.

Step 2. Creating a new Project for downloading.

The Project defines from which web page the download should start and how many pages Offline Explorer Enterprise should download for you.

You may notice an Address Bar at the top of the Offline Explorer Enterprise window below the main menu and toolbar. Enter the URL you want to download. Then press the <Tab> key on the keyboard and adjust the Level value using the <Up> and <Down> keys, or use your mouse. Then press the <Enter> key or click the Download button.

Step 3. Waiting for the download to complete.

The new Project will be created and will start downloading. The green arrow on the Project icon will indicate that the download is in process. When the download is complete the green arrow will disappear.

Step 4. Viewing downloaded files offline.

Now the web site is available for browsing off line. Right-click the downloaded Project and select Browse. Offline Explorer Enterprise will detect the best way to display the site, either in Internal browser or in your default WWW browser.

You may repeat steps 2-4 at any time. Offline Explorer Enterprise supports creation of an almost unlimited number of Projects, which could be downloaded in parallel.

There is also an easy semi-manual way to download Web sites for offline browsing.
