Terminology
FTP - File Transfer Protocol, the most common protocol used to transfer files between computers; practically the only transfer protocol used on the Internet.
Downloading - a process of sending files from a remote system to the local computer.
Uploading - a process of sending files from the local computer to a remote system.
ZIP file - the most popular file compression method. It is used by most software producers to prepare software for download on the Internet and other online systems. PkWare Inc. holds a patent for ZIP file format. You need PkUnzip, WinZip, or some other "unzipping" software in order to decompress a ZIP file.
Dial-up Connection - Windows has a built-in set of functions that allow other software to connect to the Internet and other networks; those functions are called Dial-up Networking.
File Folder - used by Windows instead of a more common term - directory. AutoFTP uses the term folder for both local and remote directories.
