AutoFTP Options

To set AutoFTP options select File/Preferences from the main menu.

Dialing page:

mobile phone forensics data recovery solutions windows data restore
usb drive files recovery software data recovery thumb drive send group sms
data recovery downloads partition files recovery best remote keylogger
  • LAN, ADSL, or Cable Modem : select this option for direct connection;
  • Dial-up Connection : select this option for dial-up connection; from the drop-down list select a dial-up connection that you normally use for connecting with the Internet;
  • Use Auto-Dial on Startup : check this option if you want AutoFTP to automatically connect to the Internet on startup;
  • Start Hidden : check this option if you want AutoFTP to automatically hide on startup; you will be able to access AutoFTP through the icon installed on the Windows Icon Tray;
  • Show Connect on Startup : if checked AutoFTP will automatically display Connect Window on startup (you can displayed this window by clicking on Connect button);
  • Redial Count : specifies how many times AutoFTP should redial when a connection cannot be established (e.g. busy line);
  • Wait for Connection : specifies how many seconds AutoFTP should wait for a connection before re-dialing (when the line is busy AutoFTP will re-dial immediately);
  • Display Hints : check this option if you want to display hint messages for every interface element in the program;
  • Pause Auto Transfers : allows you to disable Auto Transfers when you are in the full version of AutoFtp. When this option is checked you can create/modify Auto Transfers without being disturbed by a launching Auto Transfer. Auto Transfers will resume when you switch to Stealth Mode.
  • No Logging : allows you to disable Activity Log file.
  • Load Log on Startup : useful when you have a very large log file
  • Short Log - only errors : useful when you have frequent file transfers and don't want your log files to become huge. When checked mostly errors are logged. The same option is accessible in the log window;

FTP Mode page:

  • FTP Mode
  • Automatic : AutoFTP will select the binary or text transfer mode basing on the extension of the file.
  • Binary : use this mode to transfer all files unless you want to transfer the text files.
  • Text : use this mode for transferring text files. In this mode the end of line character will be translated according to the type of the destination computer. Do not use this mode for other files (executable programs, graphic files, files in compressed form,..).
  • Extensions: specify text file extensions for automatic mode. When the Automatic mode is activated all files with the extensions listed here will be transferred in the Text mode.

Transfers page:

  • File Name Case Translation:
  • Case Preserved
  • Convert To Lower Case
  • Convert To Upper Case
  • Failed Transfer Retries : number of times AutoFTP will retry to transfer a file (sometimes an FTP transfer can be aborted by the server or can time out);
  • Add Timestamp To File Name : if this option is selected the program automatically adds the date and the time to the uploaded or downloaded file name (example: 19990624_214030_FTPPRO.ZIP);

Auto-Transfers page:

  • Aborted Auto-Transfer Retries: set how many times AutoFTP has to retry aborted auto-transfers (auto-transfers can be aborted if the transfer is too slow or if the transfer time will be longer than the user defined time limit)
  • Abort Auto-Transfer If : this set of options allows a user to specify under what conditions scheduled auto-transfers should be aborted; for example, you can specify that auto-transfers should be aborted if the transfer rate after 5 minutes (from the beginning of the file transfer) is slower than 3 Kbytes it can be very useful if you want to schedule over-night transfers and want to make sure that it does not take too long; it can save you connect time and money.
  • Shutdown: check this option if you want to shutdown the computer after auto-transfer(s).

NOTE !: The AutoFTP does not check your system if other programs are running. You can lose your data if the auto-shutdown is active and you do not save your work in other applications.

  • Silent Mode: check this option if you do not want to display Message Windows at the beginning of the scheduled auto-transfer(s).
  • Restart Program: restart program every HH:MM. Auto-Restart option will allow you set the time period (in the number of hours and minutes) after which the program will automatically restart. This function is useful for running scheduled transfers that could be interrupted by unstable state of the program. Sometimes the program could be in an unstable mode caused by a remote system or a slow connection with the Internet. After the restart the AutoFTP PRO will return to a stable mode.
  • Date Format: allows you to set the Date Format that will be used by the program. This date format will be used by your scheduled transfers and will not depend on the future changes of the date format/style in your Windows operating system (Control Panel / Regional Changes / Date Tab).
  • Restart on Errors : when checked causes AutoFtp to restart itself when there are too many errors. Previously, the program always did that. Now, the user can turn it off.

Sounds page:

  • Transfers Completed Sound if selected (by using Select button) will be used after all files have been transferred; click on Test button to check the sound;
  • Error Sound if selected (by using Select button) will be used every time a file transfer fails; click on Test button to check the sound;
  • Connected Sound if selected (by using Select button) will be used after a connection with the remote system has been established (in the main window); click on Test button to check the sound;

Proxy page:

  • Passive Mode: AutoFTP will work in passive mode (regardless of your proxy settings);
  • Check "Use Proxy Server" if you want to use a firewall or proxy server;
  • Proxy Settings (ask your system administrator how to set them):
  • Host: the address of your proxy server
  • UserId: user id needed to log into your proxy server
  • Password: password needed to log into your proxy server
  • Port: port used by the proxy server (usually 21)
  • Proxy Type: select from the dropdown list one of the following:
    • SOCKS4
    • SOCKS5
    • If you set the above options and they do not work try to do the following in the Connect window.
    • Set Remote Host to your proxy server/firewall address;
    • Set User Name to your ftp account user id followed by the address of the ftp server you are connecting to e.g. "myuserid@ftp.myftpserver.com"
    • Set Password to your ftp account password.
