The FTP Options screen is used to manage the various users as well as hosting settings.

FTP Port
Indicates the port you want the FTP server to listen on. Port 21 is the (standard) default setting for FTP servers to run on, however, you can change this port if you wish.

Max. Users
This setting determines the maximum number of simultaneous connections that are allowed. After this limit is reached, users attempting to connect are rejected with the message in the Max Users Banner text box.

Max. Logon Attempts
Indicates the maximum number of logon attempts (when an invalid User ID/Password combination is entered) before the connection is terminated.

Timeout (ms)
The amount of time (in milliseconds) during which if no commands are entered, that the server will close the connection. The default value is 600000 milliseconds (10 minutes).

Welcome Banner
Indicates the banner that is displayed when a user successfully logs on.

Exit Banner
Indicates the banner that is displayed when a user logs off.

Max. Users Banner
The banner that is displayed when a new client connection is rejected because the Max Users has been reached.

Bind To IP
Indicates the IP address that you want the server to listen on. All IP addresses are listed in this combo box, so choose the IP address that you want the server to listen on. If your machine has multiple NIC cards or IP addresses, and you only want FTP services to be available to a particular set of users, be sure that you choose the IP that is exposed to your target users.

A common scenario is when a machine has both an internal IP address and a public IP address (one that is exposed to the Internet), and you only want internal users to be able to access the FTP server, then you should choose the IP address that is on your internal network (which means that the server will not be accessible from the other public IP address).

Allow Anonymous Logons
Indicates whether or not anonymous logons are allowed. The user ID 'anonymous' is a special ID; you should only create a user with this name if you want to allow users to log on without validating their password. Note that providing a password for anonymous logons is optional.

Use NT Authentication
On systems running NT or later, check this box to enable NT synchronized logons. There are several requirements to use NT integrated authentication: FtpXQ must be running as a service, and there must be an a FtpXQ user ID account with the same name as the NT users account. When a user attempts to log on, the User ID from FtpXQ is used to validate the password provided with NT. If no account NT user account with the specified combination exists, the logon attempt will fail.

Users
This listbox shows all users. To view a specific users settings, highlight the user in this listbox. Note that you change and delete multiple users by highlighting multiple users in this listbox.

User ID
Indicates the UserID for the user that is selected in the Users listbox. Note that you cannot change the User ID once you have added the user. To enable anonymous logons, a user ID called 'anonymous' (without the single quotes) should be added. You will notice that you cannot add a password for this user ID, because it is a special ID used for anonymous logons, and does not require a password.

Password
Used for entering the password when entering a new account. Note that asterisks are displayed for security reasons, instead of the actual password text. Passwords are stored in encrypted form.

Default Directory
Indicates the default directory that the logged on user should start in. For example, the path

C:\Users\JohnD\

means that this is where the user would be in the directory system once logged in by default (if virtual directories is enabled, the path would appear to the client as just \). You should always ensure that the default directory exists and is accessible, and that the correct permissions are set if using a secure file system (like NTFS) in order to allow FtpXQ to access the directory.

Allow Concurrent Logons
Indicates whether a specific user ID should be allowed to be logged on more than once. Note that concurrent logons do count towards the Max Users.

Log Access
Indicates whether or not activity is logged. If enabled, this data is logged to a file in the applications directory called Access.log.

Use Virtual Paths
This setting determines whether or not FtpXQ should send back true path information or not. It is strongly recommended that virtual paths are used, both for security and compatibility with FTP clients. Virtual paths provide the client with path information that is relative from the user's Default Directory, which effectively hides the drive and base path.

Disabled
This setting allows an account to be disabled without having to delete it. Setting an account to disabled means that it cannot be used.

New
Click this button to create a new user account. The account is not saved until the Save button is pressed. You must enter at least the User ID, Password, and Default Directory to save the new user. Once you have done this, you can then alter other properties for this user.

Remove
Use this button to remove one or many User IDs. Simply highlight the User IDs you want to remove, and click on the Remove button.

Save
After entering or editing an account, you must click on this button to save your changes.
