How Do I Use FtpXQ With Network Address Translation (NAT)?
Please see the FAQ regarding using an FTP server from behind a firewall.
What Are The LE Version Restrictions?
The LE version has various configuration restrictions (i.e. logon banner, port, etc.), with the primary restriction being that only one client may be logged on at a time. Please note that an unrestricted 30 day demo version is available for free download from our web site at www.datawizard.net.
I Keep Getting Errors When Trying To Activate FtpXQ. What Do I Do?
If you are getting errors when trying to activate the server to listen for connections, or no listening entry appears in the Main Console, try the following troubleshooting tips:
- Turn on the Log To Diagnostics option from the Options menu, and then open the Diagnostics screen by clicking on the Diagnostics... menu item, and then on the Show Log menu item from that screen. Now attempt to activate the server again. If it does not succeed, you should see an entry in the Diagnostics screen detailing the error. The most common error is 10048, Address in use. This error means that another application is already listening on this port, which means that you need to shut down the other application before trying to active FtpXQ.
- If you do see an entry in the Main Console, but you cannot open a connection from a remote location, try accessing the server from the machine FtpXQ is running on. If you can access it from there, this indicates the problem lies in the network.
- Use the netstat utility or the Connections tab of the built in Network Diagnostics to confirm that a port has been opened on port 21 (or whatever port your server is set to run on via the FTP Port option). The netstat utility can be run by opening a command prompt and then typing in netstat.
- Ensure that you have set all FTP Options and user options to valid values in all the various tabs.
How Many Licenses Do I Have To Purchase?
Please see the Licensing Requirements section.
Does FtpXQ Support Logon Scripts?
No, it currently does not.
Can I Host An FTP Server Site If My IP Is Dynamic?
Yes, you can. You must have an IP that is on the internet. Note that under certain conditions, it may be difficult for some machines on the internet to contact your machine (depending on your subnet, network configuration, etc.). If you have more than one IP address (or NIC), you may want to set FtpXQ to listen only on the internal or external IP address. FtpXQ stores the IP to bind to as the ordinal IP number for the machine (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd IP), so changing the actual IP will not prevent it from bind a listening port to it. To use a dynamic IP, you should connect to the internet, then start FtpXQ, and the dynamic IP should be displayed in the screen caption of the Main Console. You can then change the properties to listen on the new dynamic IP from the Bind To IP combo box.
If you only have one IP address, you can simply select the All IPs options from the Bind To IP combo box.
Can I use UNC Paths?
While most features will work if UNC paths are used, it is possible to receive errors under certain conditions if UNC paths are used. It is suggested that you specify mapped drives whenever possible instead, for both speed and ease of use.
Is FtpXQ Free Or Not?
There are two versions of FtpXQ, the LE version, and the regular version. The LE version is completely free for personal non-commercial use, and offers a more limited set of features as the regular version. You can purchase FtpXQ securely online directly from our web site at www.datawizard.net/Buy/buy.htm.
What Is The Password For The Test User That Comes Configured On Installation?
