Q: How does Print Inspector communicate with the service?

A: It communicates using pipes. No firewall settings are required.

Q: What are the system requirements?

A: Print Inspector runs under Windows NT/2000/XP/2003. Under Windows NT you may need to update Shell32.dll to version 4.71 or later. Print Inspector also requires the Microsoft Database Access Components v2.7 or later and the Microsoft Jet Database Engine v4.0 SP3 or later. If your system does not have up-to-date MDAC and JET you can download them at no cost from the Microsoft Web-Site.

Q: Why do I need to specify a login and password to monitor network printers?

A: By default all Windows services are running under the special SYSTEM account that has no access to the network. When you specify a user name and password the Print Inspector service operates under the specified account and is able to access network printers.
