OPERATING SYSTEMS

Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows 2003

SYMPTOMS

A Fatal Error ACK: Managed Asset Unavailable Error is returned after scanning on some systems.

RESOLUTION

This usually is the result of a system that is offline or has a firewall (Windows XP SP2). There are three quick methods to test to ensure you have full access to a system outside the INSYSTEK solution. If you do not have access with these methods, then the INSYSTEK solution most likely will not have access either.

passwords recovery software restore deleted files file recovery service
data retrieval freeware undelete download windows vista file recovery
xd card data recovery ipod file recovery sim card data recovery

Ping

If you have NOT disabled ping in your environment, ping the system by hostname first, and then IP. Make sure the hostname ping mapped to the same IP that you used. If it does not match up, then your DNS server contains old information which has not been updated. This information must correspond in order to have access to the correct system. If ping has been disabled, you need only to test by IP. Hostname resolution will not be an issue in your environment.

Shares

Try opening a network share to the system (such as the C$) to make sure you have access to the system. If you cannot open a share, you most likely do not have access, thus the INSYSTEK solution will not have access either. Use the account specified during installation while you are testing your availability/access. The INSYSTEK solution does NOT actually use network shares to function - this is only intended to be simple way to test access to a remote system.

Manage and WMI Control

The final test will attempt to connect by using the Management Console. You can access this through the right-click menu on My Computer and select Manage. Once the Management Console has opened, select Computer Management (Local) and right-click, selecting Connect To Another Computer. Enter in the hostname of the system you are trying to connect to. If you cannot connect, you may not have access, possibly from account permissions, or a firewall may be in place, etc.

If a connection has been established, expand the Services and Applications branch and select WMI Control. You will now be able to right-click WMI Control and select Properties. This will open a window indicating the connection status. If able to establish a successful connection, you should be able to retrieve data from the system - as long as the other methods of connecting worked as well. If you are unable to establish a connection, and receive an error, you will not be able to connect through the INSYSTEK solution either.
