Printing Mailing Labels

To print mailing labels, use the Print | M ailing Labels menu sequence to bring up the Print Mailing Labels screen (Figure 19).

TrakLoan comes with a label description for an Avery 5162 type label, which is a common label sheet configuration with 7 rows of 2 labels. If you’re ready to print us- ing Avery 5162 labels:

  • Check the Stop Between Sheets check box.
  • Print a test page and check the registration. You can print on a plain sheet of paper; then hold it up to the light with a sheet of labels on top to see how the printing lines up with the labels.
  • Adjust the measurements as necessary and print additional test pages until you’re satisfied.
  • Un-check the Stop Between Sheets check box.
  • Click [Print].

To prepare TrakLoan to print on a different kind of label you need a ruler that will measure tenths of an inch:

  • Enter the following quantities and measurements:
    • Rows: Enter the number of labels down the page.
    • Columns: Enter the number of labels across the page.
    • Indent From Top: Measure from the top edge of the label sheet to the point on the first label where the tops of the characters in the first line of text should fall. This is an approximation. You’ll probably have to adjust after a trial run. The actual measurement needs to be from the logical top of the page. That point isn’t visible and varies from printer to printer.

    • Indent From Left: Measure from the left edge of the label sheet to the point on the first label where printing should begin. This is another ap- proximation that will need to be adjusted after a trial run.
    • Row Difference: Measure from the top of one label down the page to the top of the next.
    • Column Difference: Measure from the left edge of one label across the page to the left edge of the next.
    • Type Size: This may need adjustment after a trial run. 12 point type is ‘‘pica’’ type on a typewriter. 10 point type is ‘‘elite.’’
  • Type in a Label Name for this label configuration.
  • Click the [Save Label Type] button.

You can save as many label types as you wish. Once you’ve saved a label type you can recover its dimensions by clicking the label name in the Label Type box.
