Backup & Restore

Rolling Stock has a builtin backup and restore feature for saving your data files. On the File menu, select Backup/Restore Data and a message will open telling you that Rolling Stock will be ended and the backup/restore module will be run. Click OK to proceed. In the backup program, click the Backup button to open the backup window. Select Drive A (or B if available) to backup to diskette, or enter a drive letter after Other drive. Enter a path, if desired, to backup to or use the button to the right of the entry field to browse your disk drives and select a subdirectory to backup the files into. If you don't specify a path, the backup will be to the root directory of the drive. Press Start to backup the files to the selected destination. The next time you do a backup, the program will remember the backup drive and path.

If the backup is too large for one diskette, the program will prompt you for additional diskettes as needed. If backing up to a hard disk, the backup file will be identified as 1.BKP. To keep more than one version of backup, change the path to a different subdirectory for each backup. The Log File button will open a window with a list of all backup sets and the files in each. However, if you have used the same path for more than one backup, then only the last one will be available for restore.

To restore, click the Restore button in the backup/restore module. Select the path to the files to restore in the same way as the backup function (they will default to the last backup values), and click Start. The Restore To tab lets you change the destination of the restore, it will default to the original location.

To have Rolling Stock remind you to backup your data files periodically, open the Options window and set the Days Between Backups to whatever interval you want. The program will remind you at closing if you have not backed up your data files in that number (n) of days. You will have the option of backing up at that time, skipping the backup until the next time you run Rolling Stock, or ignore the backup for another n days. Set the Days Between Backups to 0 disable the automatic reminders.
