Research Taskbar

The taskbar located at the bottom of the Research Tab allows you to adjust a number of viewing parameters for the chart. Just as a note, the same actions present on this taskbar are also duplicated in the Research menu item. Use whichever you find the most convenient.

From left to right, the items are as follows:

• Portfolio Actions: This contains the options of which portfolio of securities you would like to be open. It contains two sub-categories:
  • New Portfolio: Starts a new portfolio with zero securities in the Symbols list.
  • Open Portfolio: Opens a previously created portfolio.
  • Trade Sync: Syncs currently held open positions in the Trades tab with the Symbols list.
• Cursor Type:
  • Default Arrow: The main cursor for right-clicking chart actions.
  • Magnifying Glass Zoom-In: Allows you to zoom in on the chart by clicking on the main price chart (not on the indicator). Also able to zoom a selected region by clicking a spot
    on the chart and holding the mouse button down as you drag the mouse to an end point.
  • Magnifying Glass Zoom-Out: Allows you to zoom out the chart view by clicking on the
    main price chart (not on the indicator).
• Periodicity: Allows you to change the number of bars drawn on the chart.
  • D: (Daily) Draw bars for every day of the week.
  • W: (Weekly) Only draw one bar for every week of trading data.
  • M: (Monthly) Only draw one bar for every month of trading data.
• Chart Type: The way in the which the price is displayed on the chart.
  • Candle: (Candlestick) draw the open, high, low, and close as a candlestick.
  • OHLC: draw price as open, high, low, and close bar.
  • Close: draw the chart as a line representing the adjusted closing price.
• View: Whether you would like to see the currently selected symbol’s chart or the fundamentals
  on the company.
  • Charts: Display a chart of the currently selected symbol’s quotes.
  • Fundamentals: Displays the fundamentals for the currently selected symbol.
  • Fundamentals source can be changed in the Preferences menu. Default is MarketWatch.
• Update Progress: Tells you how much progress has been made in downloading quotes when you click on the Update Quotes button.
