Opening Existing Database

Opening a Database

Once a database has been created ( See also : Creating a New Database ), you can open it as follows:

  1. Use the menu option : Database | Open. Or click on the Open button Open from the Tool Bar. Ezy Invoice will display the Open Database Dialog box.
  2. Enter a valid User name and password for the Database you wish to open then select the Database you wish to open from the Available Connections list.
  3. Click Open when you have finished.

Note : If the database resides on another computer, the first time you try to open it, it will not be displayed in your list of available connections. In this case, you need to add a new connection. Click the Add button in the Open Database Dialog box, this will display the Add New Connection Wizard. Once the connection is created, you can simply Open it as in the explanation above.

Add New Connection Wizard

The Add New Connection Wizard takes you through the steps needed to create a new connection. To launch the Add New Connection Wizard, click the Add button from the Open Database dialog.

Connection Type : Choose between Workgroup or Client Server connection. Note that if this is a multi-user environment, all computers should use the same connection type. This means that all computer should either connect to the database in Workgroup Mode or Client server Mode. Never use a combination of both connection types.

Depending on your connection type:

  1. Add New Connection : Workgroup
  2. Add New Connection : Client Server

Add New Connection : Workgroup

To complete the Add New Connection for workgroups, you will need to complete the following pages :

  1. Path To Databases

    Path To Data : Specify the path to where and existing database resides. You can specify a path to a local drive or a network drive. The specified path must contain a valid Ezy Invoice database. Use the Browse button to browse your computer and Network drives for a valid database.

    Path To Backup : Specify the default location you wish to backup your data. Use the Browse button to browse your computer to instead of typing in a path.

    Click Next when you have finished.

  2. Connection Name
    • Specify the name of the connection here. Usually it is the name of the company or database. This name will be listed in the name of available connections in the Open Database dialog box.
    • Click Finished when this is done. A new connection will be added to the list of available connections.

Add New Connection : Client Server

To complete the Add New Connection for Client Server, you will need to complete the following pages :

  1. Server Details

    Server IP Address : This information tells Ezy Invoice where the Databases Server is located on your Network. Enter the Server's IP Address here.
    Connection Speed : Select your network speed here. Fast of Local Area Network connection. Slow of Modem Dial Up connections.
    Click Next when finished

  2. Available Databases On Specified Server: Ezy Invoice will then list all available databases on the specified server. Select the database for which you wish to add a connection. Then click the Next button.
  3. Connection Name
    • Specify the name of the connection here. Usually it is the name of the company or database. This name will be listed in the name of available connections in the Open Database dialog box.
    • Click Finished when this is done. A new connection will be added to the list of available connections.
