Q1: What are the data sources that Ashkon Stock Watch uses?
A: Yahoo.com and MoneyCentral.com
Q2: What is the data range and how up to date is it?
A: Once you enter the security symbol for the first time the historical prices data is getting downloaded and saved on your computer from the yesterdays closing price up to 5 years back in time. Next time you enter the same symbol the loaded historical data will be displayed. In order to update it you may click the button on the toolbar or click Edit -> Update Data on the top menu.
Q3: I would like to create a list of predefined securities and display them in Ashkon Stock Watch. How do I do that?
A: In order to do that you will have to create a ticker list file. This is a simple text file where the security symbols are separated by Enter character. A sample of such a file is located at the program directory under the name: sample.tlf Open this file using File -> Open menu and the list of the symbols will appear in the left bar. Then double click on the security symbol and the chart will appear.
Q4: How do I change the values of technical indicators?
A: On the right panel of the chart window you may select one out of ten available technical indicators. If you would like to change the parameters used in the calculation of the particular indicator, then enter a new numeric value for it and click Apply button. Apply button is located in the left bottom corner of the chart window in the Indicators panel.
Q5: I would like to test my own investment strategy based on the values of technical indicators. How do I do that?
A: First you will have to display a chart of the security that will be used for the test. Select the appropriate technical indicators that will be used to place buys and sells. Adjust the parameter values for the technical indicators. Hold left mouse button down and drag the vertical line to the day where buy conditions occur. Click Transactions on the top menu and then click Record Buy. Drag the vertical line to the day when, according to your strategy, sell conditions occur. Click Record Sell in the Transactions menu. The recorded buys and sells will be displayed in the Transactions panel on the right side from the chart.
Q6: I would like to print out the transaction report. How do I do that? (Keyword Print)
A: Go to Transactions menu and click Generate report. A transaction report will be generated in a text format. Additional comments may be added to the report and it can be saved or printed out.
Q7: Can I test short investment strategy? (Keyword Short trade)
A: Currently Ashkon Stock Watch is only supporting a long investment strategy. In other words it doesn't allow you to sell the security short. This feature will come in the later versions of software.
Q8: How do I find a security symbol for a publicly traded company? (Keyword Find Symbol)
A: Click button on the toolbar and enter the full or the partial name of the company. Double click on the search result that matches your request and a New Ticker dialog will appear.
Q9: What stocks exchanges are covered? (Keywords NASDAQ,NYSE,AMEX)
A: The historical prices data is available for the most companies listed on NASDAQ, NYSE and AMEX, including OTCBB listings.
Q10: How to I delete transaction(s)? (Keyword Delete)
A: You are able to delete a recorded transaction by highlighting the last transaction in the Transaction panels and clicking right mouse button. A popup Delete menu will appear.
