TurboBackup
TurboBackup is a fast, reliable, and easy to use backup program. It maintains a list of backup tasks displayed in the left panel of the main program for you to manage which files and folders or data (like e-mails) to back up, when to back up and where to back up to. Your backup can be optionally stored with compression for better storage space usage.
Each task can create one or more backup items referred to as backup sets. Information about individual backup sets is stored in the system as .zif files. The actual backups are stored as industry standard Zip files (.zip), proprietary TurboBackup files (.tbz), or (filtered) copy of files and folders without compression. The list of individual backup sets associated with each task is displayed in the left panel and referred to as catalog.
You can click the New Toolbar Icon on the main toolbar to create your own tasks. TurboBackup offers you a list of pre-defined templates to choose from. You can also import additional templates by using the Backup/Templates/More menu. These Templates along with the tasks added by you are listed in the left pane in an expandable view. Select what you want to back up and the Backup Now Toolbar Icon, it will back up the data for you. A catalog entry will be created for each backup file and listed under the corresponding task.
You can also use the Wizard Toolbar Icon from the main toolbar to edit a task, such as changing backup destination to DVD/CD burner drives. If you do not enter or edit where backup is being stored, it will be stored in the default folder, which can be located or relocated using the Tools/Default Options menu on the Program Options page. Each backup task has a script file with file extension of .tbs and saved in the Script folder, which can be located or relocated using the Tools/Default Options menu on the Program Options page.
When you launch TurboBackup for the first time, you will see the Quick Start Wizard. You can either click the Backup button to follow the wizard screens or click the Close button to close it. If you close it, you can use the Tools/Show Quick Start menu to show it again.
Example:
To back up your Outlook Express E-mail address book to the default folder, which can be located or changed using the Tools/Default Options menu on the Program Options page, select My E-mail Contacts from the task list and click the Backup Now Toolbar Icon or select the Backup/Back up Now menu. That's all you have to do. You will see your address book backup being created.
To back up your Outlook Express E-mail address book to DVD/CD, select My E-mail Contacts from the task list and click the Wizard Toolbar Icon from the main toolbar to edit the task. Select Burn to CD or DVD on the Where to Store wizard page. Use only "/" for path if you want to store it at the root folder or directory of the DVD/CD. Click the Backup Now Toolbar Icon or select the Backup/Back up Now menu. You will be able to back up your address book on CD or DVD.
When a task is clicked and highlighted, all the backup sets created in the task are listed in the top right file list pane. Your choices for viewing them are the same as Windows Explorer: Large Icons, Small Icons, List, or Details that can be set from the View menu. When a backup set is selected in the left pane, the content of the backup (internal file list) is shown in the top right pane.
You also have the option of selecting an internal file in a backup to display internal preview for supported preview formats. Highlight a file in the file list pane, and its content may be displayed in the right bottom pane. TurboBackup supports over 100 of the most popular file formats so you can preview images, word processing files, spreadsheets, animations, videos, and more. (If no internal file is selected for preview, you will see "No File Selected" on the Title Bar.)
If you want to automate your backup tasks, you can schedule it using the wizard. Once the scheduling is done, TurboBackup monitors the source files and keeps the backup store updated with the source files. Scheduled backups can run in the background with no user interaction.
Backup files can be saved to CD, DVD, Zip disk, floppy disk, hard disk, network drive, or any other removable or non-removable media on which you can save files. If you choose to back up to a removable media, the medium, e.g. CD, has to be mounted to perform the backup. You can back up multiple-volume to your hard drive first, and later copy to removable media.
You can back up to your remote FTP server using TurboBackup integrated FTP feature. If you do not want to use your own FTP server or do not have one set up, you can subscribe to FileStream Remote Backup service with RAID 1 redundancy protection and store your backup on FileStream server.
TurboBackup does not support backup to Tape. To save backups to tape, back up to a file on a supported media and copy that file to tape.
The many TurboBackup capabilities can be applied to a long list of tasks. Here are a few examples that may help to start:
