Transfer Options
When you upload or download a file with the same file name as an existing file, standard FTP (File Transfer Protocol) will first delete the existing file before the new file is uploaded or downloaded. This poses a problem when the upload or download is not succefully completed, which will leave you with no usable file. TurboBackup FTP offers you the optional feature of using a temporary file name when uploading or downloading a file. Only when the new file is successfully uploaded or downloaded, it will then delete the existing file and automatically rename the new file back to its original name. We highly recommend that you use this optional feature provided that you have ample free space for the temporary file.
Download
-
Download to temporary file and rename after completed
Keep Server time - this option preserves the downloaded file date and time as it appears on the server. Otherwise, the file date and time will be that of the download time.
Upload
-
Download to temporary file and rename after completed
Keep local file time if server allows - this option preserves the upload file date and time as it appears on your local computer if the FTP server allows it. Otherwise, the uploaded file date and time will be that of the upload time.
Transfer
If a transfer fails to complete before disconnection, TurboBackup FTP remembers the failed transfer and will automatically try again. You can enter the number of retries desired and the wait time before retry starts. You can also enter a number for timeout for inactivity. A longer timeout period will result in longer idle time before the transfer drops; a shorter timeout period will result in shorter idle time before the transfer drops. Once a transfer drops, TurboBackup FTP will automatically retry transfer within the number of retries that you specify.
Advanced Transfer Options
Connection
You can specify retry parameters for server connection, like the number of retries, time delay before retry, and how long to time out and start retrying (within the number of retries).
Transmission Mode
You can select from the available options to switch transmission mode. TurboBackup FTP lets you transfer files in Binary, ASCII, or in Auto mode. You should use Binary mode to transfer all files unless you know the file only contains text. Some server application may require that you use ASCII mode to transfer text files because of the differences in end of line characters. In Auto Detect mode, TurboBackup FTP will send all files in Binary mode except those selected file types (extensions), which you can edit in the list to the right. The default option is Auto Detect.
