Back up to Zip Disks & Floppy Disks

TurboBackup supports backup to removable disks. When a backup file is larger than available space on a removable disk (Zip disk or floppy disk), you can select the Multiple Volume option in the Backup/Default Backup Option menu item, the Removable media tab to create the backup and have it stored over multiple disks. When a removable disk is specified as the target for a Backup file, TurboBackup prepares for the possibility that the archive may exceed the size of the media and may require multiple diskettes. The Multi-Volume Options dialog allows you to choose how it will treat the diskette that is inserted. The last disk of a multiple volume set contains the content information of the set.

  • Append this backup to the media will not overwrite files on the target media, and will size volumes to the free space available on the drive.
  • Delete all files from the media erases all files on the target, to allow the use of the full capacity of the removable media.
  • Format the media performs a complete format of the target media.

When one disk in a Multiple Volume set fails in the process for whatever reason, the entire set may be useless. Backup directly to removable disks is also generally slower than backup to hard disk. TurboBackup offers the Multiple Volume backup to hard disk option. You may want to back up in Multiple Volume to hard disk first, then copy each volume to a removable disk.
