2GB & 4GB Limits

There are file size limit constraints, which are at 2GB and 4GB.

Backup Single File Size Up To 2GB on DVD

TurboBackup follows ISO 9660 standard, which limits burning single file to optical media, like DVD, to 2GB in size. This is an important consideration to keep in mind if you have a single file larger than 2GB or a compressed backup file with size larger than 2GB. In the latter case, TurboBackup will automatically create and write disc spanning backup files. For DVD, each volume is 2GB (ISO maximum single file size); for CD, each volume is 650MB.

If it is important to you to compress your backup to DVD and also use the full disc space, you can back up to HDD in 2GB multiple volumes then copy each volume to DVD. Double Layer DVD can hold 7.9GB total, which fits 4 volumes of 2000MB each. (1GB=1024MB) Multiple volume backup to DVD generated this way requires that you first copy all volumes back to HDD when you restore your files and data.

If you use the Duplicate Files and Folders option, TurboBackup will automatically detect media capacity and create disc spanning backup. When the first media is full, it will ask you for the second media. You should check to make sure no single file is larger than 2GB.

Backup Single File Larger Than 2GB to DVD

TurboBackup only span file when using either of the two compression options. So when you have a single file larger than 2GB and want to span it, you need to use either .zip or .tbz. You cannot use the Duplicate Files and Folders option when any one of the files you want to back up is larger than 2GB.

Single File Larger Than 4GB on FAT32 Drive

If your drive is as FAT32 formatted, the maximum single file size is (4GB - 2 bytes). You cannot copy, paste, or move a single file larger than that size to or from any FAT32 formatted drive. This is the single file size limitation solely because of FAT32 and is not directly related to Photo TurboBackup. There is no limitation on NTFS formatted drives.

Zip (.zip) or Backup (.tbz) Larger Than 4GB

If your compressed backup file is larger than 4GB, TurboBackup will use the industry standard PKZip 4.5 compatible large Zip format to create the backups. These files can restored with TurboBackup. For Zip files, you cal also use most popular Zip programs like TurboZIP to extract the files. You can only store over 4GB files on NTFS formatted HDD or other magnetic media.
