Convert Backups to MTF

Convert Backups to MTF

SQL Backup Manager provides a wizard to convert backup files (.sdb) to Microsoft Tape Format (MTF) files. You can use the native SQL Server RESTORE command to restore MTF files. To start the Convert wizard, on the Tools menu, click Convert Backups to MTF.

The Convert wizard comprises the following steps:

Step 1: Select the source files that you want to convert.

If you want to search for backup files, and click Add Files. The file browser is displayed for you to select the backup files. When you click OK on the file browser, the files you have selected are listed.

Lockis displayed next to any encrypted files. Click Enter Password, and type the password. For all files that use the password you entered, Correct is displayed. You must enter the passwords for all selected files before you click Next.

If there are any problems with a file, for example if it is corrupted, Error is displayed. To see details of the error, move your mouse pointer over the icon.

If there are any problems with your selection, for example if you have selected backup files from different backup sets or databases, a message is displayed above the list of files.

Step 2: Specify the output options.

To change the path and file name, type the new file name, or click and specify the file using the file browser.

Select the Overwrite existing MTF files of the same name check box if you want to overwrite any files that exist with the path name you specified for the files. Note that if a file of the same name exists already and you have not chosen to overwrite it, the convert will fail.

Step 3: Review your convert settings.

The Summary displays a simple report of the options you have set for the convert operation, for you to check.

When you have checked the settings, click Finish to start the convert process.
