Import Video & Customization

Importing a video file into Flash Video MX

Flash Video MX is a powerful program that can convert both common video files and DVD files. Double click the Flash Video MX icon on your desktop to start it.

To import common video file:

  1. Click the button in the main interface. Then the Open dialog box pops up.
  2. Locate the driver and folder of the files you wish to convert.
  3. Select the video file you wish to convert and click Open. Flash Video MX supports almost all of the common videos, such as MPEG, WMV, AVI, MOV, RM, VOB, 3GP, DV, etc.
  4. Flash Video MX opens the video file. You can preview the video in the left panel.
  5. Alternatively, use the Open Project command to open the project that is predefined settings for a video.

Editing the video

To trim the video duration and crop the video content, switch to the Edit tab. Trim the video duration in the trim section as follow:

  1. Enter the time where you want the video clip to start in the Start Time area.
  2. Click the button to confirm the start time you just entered.
  3. If you want to set the start time exactly, click the button to go to the previous frame, or click the button to go to the next frame.
  4. Enter the time where you want the video clip to stop in the End Time area.
  5. Click the button behind to confirm the end time you just entered.
  6. If you want to set the end time exactly, click the button to go to the previous frame, or click the button to go to the next frame.
  7. The video duration time will be displayed in the Capture area.
  8. Alternatively, it is easier to trim the video during playing.
  9. When it comes to the frame where you want the video clip to start, click the Mark Start Point button
  10. When it comes to the frame where you want the video clip to finish, click the Mark End Point button

Follow the below steps to crop the video content in the Crop section:

  1. In the left panel, use the video preview selector-dragging the slider controls to crop the video.
  2. Alternatively enter values in the edit boxes for the right, left, top, and bottom edges to crop the video. Top is the distance (in pixel) between the top of the cropped video to the top of the original video; Left is the distance (in pixel) between the left of the cropped video to the left of the original video; Right is the distance (in pixel) between the right of the cropped video to the left of the original video; Bottom is the distance (in pixel) between the bottom of the cropped video to the top of the original video.
  3. The cropped information will appear in the bottom-right pane, such as video size, aspect ratio.

Adjusting the video effects

To adjust the video effects, switch to the Effect tab.

  1. In the Video section, drag the Contrast slider to adjust the contrast.
  2. Drag the Brightness slider to correct for any changes in exposure.
  3. By checking the Flip box, you can flip the video vertically.
  4. The Deinterlace option helps to eliminate the interlace artifacts to get better display effects.
  5. In the Audio section, drag the Volume slider to adjust the original volume for your video.

Adding logo to video

To add image and text to the video, switch to the Logo tab.

To add image to the video:

  1. Click the Add Image button box and select Add Image from the drop-down list.
  2. In the Option drop-down list, click the Open button to open the image that you want to add in the Browse box.
  3. Click the first Select Transparent Color button, and then the Select Transparent Color dialog pops up.
  4. Click your mouse on the left picture to select a transparent color.
  5. To adjust the tolerance, drag the Tolerance slider.
  6. Drag the Alpha slider to adjust the alpha attribute.
  7. Press OK to return to the Logo label.
  8. From the Origin drop-down list, select the picture origin. Then change the values in the Left and Right spin controls to set the x and y coordinates for the upper left corner of the picture.
  9. To adjust the image size, change the values in the Width and Height boxes. The button alongside will help to keep the original aspect ratio.
  10. Then set beginning and duration for the image in the Offset drop-down menu. In the Start time and End time boxes, to set the beginning time; and the end time. The two controls alongside will help to go the previous frame or the next frame.

To add text to the video:

  1. Click the "+" button box and select Add Text from the drop-down list.
  2. In the Option drop-down menu, enter the text you want to add in the Caption box.
  3. To change the font, click the Font button, and then the Select Font dialog displays.
  4. From the Font drop-down menu, select the font you want.
  5. Choose the font style in the Style list box.
  6. From the Size list box, select the font size.
  7. Select the color you like from the Color drop-down menu.
  8. In the Effect box, you can strike through the text by checking the Strike Out box, and add underline to the text by checking the Underline box.
  9. Drag the Alpha slider to change the text alpha attribute.
  10. The effects displays in the Sample box. Press OK to return to the Logo label.
  11. Select the text origin from the Origin drop-down box.
  12. Then change the values in the Left and Top spin controls to set the x and y coordinates for the upper left corner of the text.
  13. Then open the Offset drop-down list to set beginning and duration for the text. Change the value in the Start time box to set the beginning time; and the value in the End time box to specify the text duration time. The two controls at the side will help to go the previous frame or the next frame.
  14. To set the fade in and fade out duration for the text, specify the value in the Fade in and Fade out boxes.

Note:
By select add image or text, you can also choose Image or Text from the Type drop-down list to change to add image or text.

The Lock button in the line of the "+" button will help to keep the time to the current frame.

After the operations, the effects will appear in the left preview panel.

Capturing a picture from video

To capture a picture in the video, switch to the Snapshot tab.

  1. Check the Generate a picture as the first frame box first.
  2. When it plays to the frame you want, click the Capture Capture button to capture a thumbnail.

Note:

The first step will generate a jpg picture from the video as the first frame as the first frame for the converted video.

Adding Cue Point

To add cue point, switch to the CuePoint tab:

  1. When the video plays to the frame that you want to add cue point, click the Add button and select a cue point type from the pop-up list. There are two types of cue points you get: navigation, event. The button Delete helps you to delete the selected cue point.
  2. In the right pane, you can rename the cue point and change the cue point type.
  3. In the Offset drop-down list, you can set the time of the cue point directly in the Time box.
  4. In the Parameters drop-down list, click the Set Parameter button to set the parameters for the selected cue point.
  5. Set the parameter's name and value in the second list.
  6. By clicking the Delete Parameter button, you can delete the parameter.

Note:

A navigation cue point allows you to seek to a particular frame in the FLV file because it creates a keyframe within the FLV file as near as possible to the time that you specify.

An event cue point enables you to synchronize a point in time within the FLV file with an external event on the web page. You can set it like this:

Name: "my::title"; Time: The time when to show the subtitle.

Parameters:

Name: "t"; Value: Type the text to show.

Name: "d"; Value: Type the duration to display the text in parameter "t" in milliseconds.
