Open File
Shortcut: Control-O
Location: File Menu
Use Open to load a previously saved wave file into memory. Wave Breaker can open standard wave files in a variety of formats; and stereo or mono files. By default, Wave Breaker looks only for files with the .WAV extension.
Save File
Shortcut: Control-S
Location: File Menu
Select Save to write your splitted files to disk in the wave format. Wave Breaker will show the default names of the splitted files, However you can edit the File name and manually type in the New File Name in the List box.
Choose the Extension of the splitted files (to be saved) in the “File(s) to Create” combo box. When you press save button or File/save, Wave Breaker will save the splitted file with specified extension (Wave or MP3) at the current save file path configured in the File/Preferences.
If a file with the given name is already existing at the save location, Wave Breaker will warn U before saving, If you choose yes to overwrite, it will replace the existing file with the new file. And if you choose No Wave Breaker will prompt you for a file name and location.
File/Save and Save button will not be enabled unless you have atleast one file in the List view box.
Preferences
Location: File Menu
Selecting File/Preferences brings up a dialog box that will allow you to make changes to WaveBreaker's configuration. There are Four options you may change: Output File Location, Track Splitting Criteria, Preview Duration and Save as MP3 Settings.
Output File Location:
There are two options to choose from. Same as source file and specify your own file save location.
By default, the program uses “Same as source file” option.
Same as source file
If this radio button is checked, the program uses Source File Destination to save the splitted files.
Specify your own file save location
Check this radio button and the Browse button located below the Edit box will be enabled. If you click on Browse button Wave Breaker will open “Browse for Folder” dialog box and will prompt you for a new save location.
Track Splitting Criteria:
This option defines what parameters exactly Wave Breaker considers to split the wave files.
Silence amplitude (% of Maximum): This option specifies the silence threshold value that Wave Breaker will use for breaking files. By default it has value 10%. 10% in this box means that anything quieter than 10% of the sound’s maximum loudness is considered silence. This number is used by Wave Breaker to detect the wave clips quieter than this value from a file. You can modify this number and Experiment until Wave Breaker makes an accurate distinction between background noise (or Track end) and true signal to get near to accurate points for splitting your files.
Silence Duration (In sec): This option specifies the duration of the threshold silence Amplitude occurring in the file in use. If you have specified 10% silence Amplitude threshold value and a duration 3sec. Then Wave Breaker will search a location in the file where the signals are quieter than 10% of Maximum Amplitude for a duration of atleast 3-sec. And if program finds these locations, it will break the wave files at this point. As many places in a file program finds the Track splitting criteria is satisfied it will create separate splitted files and list all of them in the List view box. To return to the default setting, click the Reset button.
Save as MP3 Settings
Save as MP3 settings allow you to set the options for saving your splitted audio files into the MP3 format. The MP3 format is a highly compressed type of audio that takes up far less disk space than wave files. It is also a "lossy" compression algorithm, meaning that your MP3 files will not sound quite so good as your wave files usually (though, depending on the quality, you probably won't notice the difference).
In order to save splitted files to the MP3 format, you will need a supported MP3 codec on your computer. See Requirements for more information about which codecs are supported by Wave Breaker, and how you can obtain a codec if you don't have one. You can choose one of the supported codec and Bit-Rate form the “MP3 Codec combo box” and “MP3 Bit-Rate combo box”.
"Codec" stands for compression/decompression. It's basically a small program that's installed on your computer which then allows Windows to compress and/or decompress audio to and from certain formats.
Exit
Location: File Menu
Use the Exit command to quit Wave Breaker. If you have an unsaved wave file in memory, Wave Breaker will first prompt you and ask if you want to save the file to disk.
