Main Panel

On/Off button

The On/Off button turns AV VCS 5.5 Silver on or off; when AV VCS 5.5 Silver is on, the button is red and illuminated, when it is off - dimmed. When you turn AV VCS on, you have the access to voice processing, either in the Autonomous, or in the Intercept mode. If you are not going to use AV VCS for a while, and you do not want to close the program either, you can simply turn AV VCS 5.5 Silver off and work with other programs.

Duplex button

AV VCS 5.5 Silver intercepts and morphs any audio stream: recording stream (a microphone, CD-ROM, Line-in, etc), WaveOut stream (a simple playback stream produced by a sound player), and DirectX stream (advanced, mixed playback stream wherever Microsoft DirectX is supported). The Duplex mode is on by default, which allows you to hear the changed voice output when AV VCS 5.5 Silver intercepts and morphs a recording stream (for example, when you select the microphone recording control as the sound source). In other words, when Duplex button is ON, both you and the party from the other end of line can hear your changed voice output. However, when Duplex button is OFF, only the party from the other end of line can hear your changed voice. If the Duplex button is dimmed, it means that the duplex mode is off; in this case, click the Duplex button and make sure it is red and illuminated. If your sound card is a single output one, in some cases you will be able to turn the Duplex mode on and off instead of using the On/Off button to work properly with other audio programs. When the Duplex mode is off, you will not hear the changed voice output as you speak, but you can be sure that the voice is being changed, and you can see the wave form displayed in the Volume Meter.

The Duplex mode automatically turns off, when AV VCS 5.5 Silver starts intercepting and morphing the WaveOut or DirectX stream. What you will hear in this case is the playback sound produced by another compatible audio program and morphed by AV VCS 5.5 Silver Duplex mode will turn on again as soon as the WaveOut or a DirectX stream stops playing.

Note: If your sound card is not a full duplex one, replacing it with a full duplex one and installing full duplex driver is highly recommended. This will allow you to hear in real time how your voice gets changed, and it is also necessary to make the adjustment of the voice output nice and easy.

Upgrade button

Click the Upgrade button to open the Smart Upgrades web-page, where you can get new skins, effects, nickvoices and celevoices.

Note: Before clicking Upgrade, make sure your Internet connection is active.

Nickvoices menu button

What on earth are nickvoices? The word "nickvoice" originated from the "nickname" that people use to protect their privacy. Now you can create nickvoices to match your nicknames so you can totally disguise yourself in the Internet for fun, entertainment, privacy, anonymity, or any other reason.

AV VCS nickvoices are combinations of pitch, timbre and equalization settings. You can choose a pre-created nickvoice by clicking the Nickvoices button.

Nickvoices for Male input (10): Woman1, Girl1, Old Woman1, Woman2, Girl2, Old Woman2, Baby, Prudent Girl, Pleasant Girl, School Mistress.

Nickvoices for Female input (10): Man , Boy, Old Man, Amorous Man, Baby, Child, Teenager, Young Man, Amorous Man, Cool Man, Terminator

If you are not satisfied with the way the preset nickvoices sound, you can create your own nickvoices by adjusting the Pitch, Timbre, and Equalization settings and save them for future use.

Skins menu button

AV VCS 5.5 Silver is installed with the Plazma Silver skin as the default one. Working with the Plazma Silver skin is highly recommended because all operations with AV VCS 5.5 Silver described in this Help file apply to this skin. However, you can always switch to the Classic skin if you prefer the standard Windows interface. To do it, just click the Skins button, and then click Classic. AV VCS 5.5 Silver will instantly change the skin leaving all the settings intact. To return to the Plazma Silver skin, click the Skins button again, and then click Plazma Silver.

If you wish to get more great skins, make sure your Internet connection is active, click Skins, then click More, and you will be taken to the Web page where you will be able to download new nice-looking skins. The skins that you download will be automatically installed in the AV VCS 5.5 skins library. You can switch over these skins the same way as it is described above.

Voice Morpher on/off button

Click the on/off button to turn on or off the Voice Morpher. When the Voice Morpher is on, this button and the Voice Morpher graph are illuminated.

Voice Morpher Reset button

Click the Reset button to reset the Voice Morpher settings.

Voice Morpher graph

The two most important music sound or human voice parameters are the pitch and the timbre. For example, a woman's voice and a boy's voice may have the same pitch, but they will still not sound alike. This is because their voice timbres or the so-called voice colors are different. With the help of the AV VCS 5.5 you can adjust the pitch and the timbre of the voice, hence you can totally control the "age" and the "gender" of the voice output.

In the default skin, the Pitch and Timbre settings are combined in the Voice Morpher. In order to instantly change an input voice into one of dozens of new men's, women's, girls', boys', or babies' voices, you can simply move the Pitch-Timbre pointer within the Pitch-Timbre graph, or click the Pitch-Timbre pointer and use the LEFT ARROW, RIGHT ARROW, UP ARROW, and DOWN ARROW keys to move it around. The Pitch and Timbre values are displayed at the lower right and upper left corners of the Pitch-Timbre graph respectively. When the Pitch and Timbre values are 100%, the voice is not changed. The higher the Pitch and the Timbre values are (the maximum value is 200%), the higher the voice output is; the lower the Pitch and the Timbre values are (the minimum value is 50%), the lower the voice output is. To adjust only the Timbre or the Pitch value, move the Pitch-Timbre pointer vertically or horizontally. You may also use Reset button to reset pitch and timbre to their default values.

Move the pointer to adjust the pitch and timbre settings.

Advanced tune slider

The Advanced Tune - is a special control for voice timbre. This slider is useful when you morph a voice in a song, either from an Audio CD or MP3 file, trying to keep the background music unaltered. The lower the value, the closer to the original the background music will be. The minimum value is 0%, the maximum value is 100%. The default value is 100% because AV VCS 5.5 Silver is mainly intended for changing a pure voice stream coming through a microphone or from a sound file.

Stream Settings pane

In the default AV VCS 5.5 Silver has Plazma Silver skin, in which just under the Volume Meter, there is a 2D pane that allows you to adjust the attributes of the sound and to switch streams: Mono - Stereo, and select the Sample Rate. In the Autonomous mode, you can move this pointer to change the attributes.

Mode. Mono (monaural) means only one sound channel, while Stereo includes two independent channels. Since the speech engine reproduces only one voice, selecting Mono allows saving some CPU resources without decreasing the quality of the sound.

Sample Rate determines the overall bandwidth (how many frequencies can be encoded within the audio signal, with higher sampling rates yielding a wider bandwidth. Higher sample rates produce higher quality audio at the expense of higher CPU utilization. Frequencies of up to 1/2 the sample rate can be produced effectively, so to reproduce a frequency of 10 kHz, a sample rate of at least 20 kHz must be chosen.

  • 8000 Hz AM radio quality
  • 11025 Hz Reasonable compromise quality
  • 16000 Hz Reasonable compromise quality
  • 22050 Hz FM radio quality
  • 32000 Hz Better than FM radio quality (for some sound cards, this value is 32075 Hz)
  • 44100 Hz CD quality
  • 48000 Hz DVD quality

In the Intercept mode, AV VCS 5.5 Silver will display the attributes of the audio stream intercepted. For example, Internet audio programs normally use the Mono and 8000 Hz (or 11025 Hz) values, and these values will be displayed if you intercept such a program.
