MP3 Codecs
'Codec' stands for "compression/decompression". It's basically a small program that's installed on your computer system which then allows the operating system (Windows) to compress and/or decompress audio to and from certain formats. The compression bitrate is a function of the codec installed on your computer system.
If you intend to Decode or Encode MP3 files, then you need a special software program called a codec. Two popular codecs are the Fraunhofer codec (Professional or Advanced) and the LAME encoder (its not a codec really!).
The common Windows ACM Default codec allows a compression bitrate ranging from 20 kilobits per second to 128 kilobits per second, whereas the Lame encoder lets you select from 32 kilobits per second to 320 kilobits per second.
Then you first run “ePCEditor”, the software will determine if you need to download any software components. If so, it will point you to a website from where you may download the required components.
