| Using Blaze Audio Overdub |
| |
Program Screen
Overdub! is very easy to use. Study this page and the screen layout and you will know most of what you need to know to operate the program.

- On the top left are the playback controls. The right and left sliders control the right and left volumes. You can play the original sound, the overdub, or the mix by clicking on the appropriate play buttons, and you can use the tape transport buttons to go to the beginning, the end, pause, fast forward, rewind, or stop playback.
- On the bottom left you will see the Recording controls. The slider at the left side controls the volume of the left input channel, the slider at the right side controls the volume of the right input channel. To change the record source click on the Rec Source button. The currently active record source will appear above the button. Click on the Record button to start recording.
- Between the record and playback control panels are indicators showing the current play/record position in minutes, seconds, and hundredths, and the positions of the punch in and punch out markers. Between the waveform displays for the original audio and the overdub you will see the indicator giving the total length of the file.
- Just to the right of the playback and record controls is the volume readout. You will see it light up to show the volume during recording and playback.
- Mixing the original audio with the overdub down to a final output file is controlled by the three buttons at the top. You can create a new file mixing the two, add the overdub to the original file, or save only the overdub.
- The area marked “Original Audio” shows the sound you are overdubbing on top of. You can either load in an audio file and then record the overdub, or you can first record the original audio directly into Overdub! before recording the overdub. When there is audio in this portion of Overdub! you will see the waveform in the window.
- Note the two special sliding markers Punch In and Punch Out. Once you have a wave file either loaded or recorded as “Original Audio” you can use your mouse to move these two sliders. Audio before and after the slider is discarded.
- At the far right are the sliders that control the volume of the sound from the original audio and the overdub that will go into the final output.
