Creating Overdub

Step 1. If you already have the background audio in a file on your computer, simply go to File->Open, select the file, and load it in. The voiceover will be recorded at the same bit depth and sampling rate as your original file.

If you don't yet have the background audio, you can record it directly into Overdub!. Click on “Start Record” in the lower left portion of the screen, choose the bit depth and sampling rate you want to use, and record the audio.

Step 2. Determine what portion of the the original audio should have the overdubbed audio added to it. In some cases you'll want the overdub or voiceover to run all through the background audio; in other cases you will only want it for a portion. Set the Punch in and Punch Out markers so that everything you want to overlay is inside the markers.

Step 3. Record the overdub, whether it's a voiceover, sound effects, or an addition layer of music. You can control the volume and the stereo pan and re-take your recording as many times as you would like.

Step 4. When you are happy with the overdub, you can mix it down to the final output. Use the sliders at the right side of the screen to control the exact amount of the original file and the overdub going into the final file, and use the buttons at the top to determine whether you are mixing to a new file, to the original file, or just saving the overdub portion.
